Daredevil: Born Again season 2 showrunner talks reuniting the Defenders for the first time in 7 years: "Bringing [Jessica Jones] back in this season was top of the checklist"

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 showrunner Dario Scardapane and executive producer Sana Amanat say bringing back Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones was a must for the second season of the hit Marvel-Disney Plus show.

"I really love the work that Melissa [Rosenberg] did in Jessica Jones," Scardapane tells GamesRadar+. I think it's one of the best genre television shows done. I think Krysten's created an amazing character. Bringing her back in this season was top of the checklist. It's not in the episodes you saw. It's one of the highlights of the season for me creatively, and I think for the viewers. I know for the studio."

Prior to becoming part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and before Disney Plus took over as the in-canon streaming home), Daredevil and Jessica Jones both premiered on Netflix in 2015, followed by Luke Cage and Iron Fist... with each hero eventually coming together to form a supergroup in The Defenders. The last time we saw Krysten Ritter's leather jacket-wearing vigilante on the small screen was 2019, during the third season of Netflix's Jessica Jones.

"We have great characters," Amanat adds. "I have to say the previous shows have fantastic characters that they built, and for us, you know, JJ was a wish that we wanted from the beginning. So it was exciting that we were able to make it happen, and exciting, exciting to see where she is now many years later."

It makes sense for Jessica to return this season, especially given the fact that the Punisher will be largely absent (though he's getting his own special, don't worry). Matt Murdock, who is now on the run following the events of Daredevil: Born Again season 1, could use all the help he can get when it comes to taking back New York City from Mayor Wilson Fisk's tyrannical reign. Judging by the latest trailer, it looks like Jessica's help is pretty effective...
