Destiny: Xur weapons, gear, and location, January 15 - 17. The Impossible Machines!

Xur, Destiny’s weekend trader, vintage baseball card collector, and impassioned, experimental home brewer (his onion brandy was a surprising success), is back, this week in the Reef. What’s he selling? Is it another great stock line-up, after last week’s rather splendid selection? No. No, it’s not great. But read on. You might want some of it.

  • Ruin Wings [Exotic Titan Gauntlets] - 13 Strange Coins
  • Celestial Nighthawk [Exotic Hunter Helmet] - 13 Strange Coins
  • The Impossible Machines [Exotic Warlock Gauntlets] - 13 Strange Coins
  • Legacy Primary Weapon Engram - 31 Strange Coins
  • Exotic Helmet Engram - 19 Strange Coins
  • Three of Coins - 7 Strange Coins
  • Glass Needle - 3 Strange Coins

Ruin Wings? If for some reason you specialise in heavy weapon kills above all else, then you’ll find yourself collecting a lot more ammo with these things equipped, but that’s about it. A decent advantage for sword-users in the Crucible – provided they can get to the heavy ammo drop in time – but otherwise fairly guff now that there’s no one, dominant heavy option in the game. The Hunters’ Celestial Nighthawk gives a couple of boosts to Super energy, and turns the Golden Gun’s three shots into one big one, of six times the power, but you’ve really got to weigh up whether the overall increase in damage output is worth the risk of having to direct it all at a single target and/or risk missing.

The Warlock’s Impossible Machines? They hand out the Stormcaller’s Landfall perk – the one that fires a huge lightning strike down through your body when you launch your Super – for free, giving you more options within your skill tree. It’s a decent bonus, allowing you to make an explosive entrance and still enjoy the extra chain lightning of Superconductor or the evasive teleporting of Electric Glide as you zap the crap out of the mob. If you’re building an Exotic set-up for every subclass, it’s a decent bet. Not essential otherwise though.

As per usual, Xur will be in the Tower until 10am UK / 2am PT on Sunday, when he'll vanish off to do God knows what for another week, so make sure you stock up on whatever you want while you can.
