Calling anyone with a love of design, twisty ‘80s styled thrillers and old-school VHS! We’ve got the competition for you…
Gripping noir thriller Cold In July is set in the ‘80s and has a key scene that takes place in a video rental store – so we’re going to head back to this nostalgia-bathed era and ask you to design a COLD IN JULY VHS BOX COVER!
Whether you decide to draw, paint or use photoshop to create your design, your artistic skills will be judged by none other than the director of the film himself – Jim Mickle.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
Cold In July features a distinguished cast including Don Johnson, Sam Shepard, and Michael C. Hall in his breakout film role. While investigating noises in his house one balmy Texas night in 1989, Richard Dane (Hall) puts a bullet in the brain of low-life burglar Freddy Russell. Although he’s hailed as a small-town hero, Dane soon finds himself fearing for his family’s safety when Freddy’s ex-con father, Ben (Shepard), rolls into town, hell-bent on revenge. Twists and turns accelerate as the film reaches its inevitable destination: a gore-soaked dead end.
The competition is to celebrate Cold In July releasing on DVD, Blu-ray and On Demand from 20 October 2014. The film is also releasing as a limited edition steelbook, which has been made to resemble a VHS too - the winning entrant will take home one of these limited edition steelbooks (as well as, y’know, an immense amount of pride and stuff).
