Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky review

Another snapshot of the famous designer's life, slightly more risqué than the last

As infamous was to Capote , this is to Coco Before Chanel – Jan Kounen’s look at the French designer’s affair with the married Russian composer is a snapshot compared to Anne Fontaine’s origins story.

Yet it has its moments, notably the opener, recreating the rancorous 1913 premiere of Stravinsky’s ‘Rite Of Spring’.

As Chanel, Anna Mouglalis lacks Audrey Tautou’s feisty pluck but makes up for it with Gallic froideur, while Mads Mikkelsen broods as a tortured artist.

One more film – maybe Coco’s Nazi liaisons? – and we’ll have a boxset.
