Publicity has cranked up a notch for Michael Bay’s bodybuilding crime movie Pain & Gain , with the release of a new poster and confirmation of the film’s official release date.
The film stars Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson as a pair of bodybuilders who find themselves caught up in a kidnapping and extortion plot that spirals terribly out of control.
Filmed on a budget of just $25m, Pain & Gain represents a bit of a departure for Bay, despite the presence of some fairly lurid costumes to be sported by Wahlberg and Johnson. Explosions will be few and far between.
The new poster is a take-off of one of those sickly-looking protein shakes that form the cornerstone of any muscle-man’s diet. It’s worth noting the small print that references “explosive results”. Perhaps we were wrong about those explosions, after all…
Co-starring Anthony Mackie, Rob Corddry, Ed Harris and John Turturro, Pain & Gain will now be released on 26 April 2013. Check out the full poster, below…
