Phil Traill knows about being an underdog: he directed All About Steve.
The only way is up, then, for his sporting romcom, starring Cemetery Junction’s Felicity Jones as a teenage maid up to her ear-muffs in snobbery at a flash ski resort, where she takes a fancy to competitive snowboarding (and Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick).
The outlook’s grey: tatty production values, clichéd backstory (dead mum, crippled confidence), no laughs. But it’s steered to success – just – by Jones, a natural, likeable everygirl who will make you care, possibly against your will, about a story as old as the Alps.
