The last update we got on Batman's solo film was that Ben Affleck is aiming to "borrow great stories from the great comic books but create an original story around it", and a new rumour could be indicating which comics the actor-director has in mind.
According to Batman-On-Film, Affleck's Caped Crusader will be "locked up in Arkham" during the film. The site has no details on how long he'll be there for - or how he winds up there in the first place - but it definitely brings to mind Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on a Serious Earth, not to mention Rocksteady's excellent 2009 video game Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Like any rumours this should be taken with a pinch of salt, but I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be right on the money. Setting a Batman film in Arkham gives the filmmakers a perfect excuse to showcase multiple villains, and we all know that the Dark Knight has the best rogues gallery in comics. The downside would be that we'd lose out on seeing Batman traverse the streets of Gotham. Maybe we can have the best of both worlds?
Directed by David Ayer and starring Ben Affleck, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad will open in the UK and US on August 5, 2016.
