Zone of the Enders "project" announced by Konami

At a Zone of the Enders event today, Hideo Kojima announced that Konami had finally begun work on the long awaited follow-up to Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner. The cult classic Zone of the Enders series has gone nearly ten years without an installment as the latest game was released in 2003 on the PlayStation 2.

Konami also used the opportunity to announce the release date for the Zone of the Enders HDcompilation which will be hitting store shelves on October 25 for both PS3 and Xbox 360. Head on over to Andriasang if you're curious to see what kind of work they're doing to bring the series up-to-date.

As for "Project Ender," we currently have no idea when the game might see release, as Kojima gave us no clues to go on. That said, if the game has only just begun development then it will likely still be at least 18 months to 2 years.

If the title is as early along as it seems, then it's also unlikely we'll see much of the game at E3. At least, not in playable form.
