The next film in the Toy Story series will apparently be a romantic comedy, with Pixar president Jim Morris revealing that the fourth instalment will not be a direct sequel to Toy Story 3.
Speaking to Disney Latino, Morris revealed that the new film will be a standalone story, although it will still feature all the old favourites from the existing trilogy…
“The third movie ended in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy,” says Morris. “I think this movie is not part of this trilogy. It is a separate story, which in turn I do not know if will be continued. Never begin a project with that in mind.”
“It is not a continuation of the end of the story of Toy Story 3,” he continues. “It will be a love story. It will be a romantic comedy. It will not put much focus on the interaction between the characters and children. I think it will be a very good movie.”
He doesn’t elaborate any further on whose love story this will be, but we’d put money on a new beau for either Woody or Buzz. Unless it’s the Ken and Barbie spin-off we’ve all been hoping for…
Directed by John Lasseter, with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen expected to return, Toy Story 4 will open in the US on 16 June 2017 and the UK on 14 July 2017.
