Ronda Rousey set to kick some ass in Roadhouse remake

Good news for fans of rural roughhousing, as MGM is seemingly moving forward with its long-rumoured remake of classic Patrick Swayze actioner Roadhouse. However, the amount of testosterone on show looks set to take a sharp dip if the studio gets bags its number one choice for Swayze’s replacement…

According to Variety, UFC star Ronda Rousey is in advanced negotiations to take the leading role, having made an impression in recent action spectacular The Expendables 3. For those unfamiliar with the original, it followed Swayze’s badass bouncer as he is hired to clean up the Double Deuce, Missouri’s most infamous bar. However, he soon has more on his plate than rowdy punters when he finds himself having to protect the local town from a crooked businessman. Needless to say, it’s a sure-fire recipe for cult classic status.

The report claims that Rousey made a point of reaching out to Swayze’s widow, Lisa Niemi, before entering into discussions, with Niemi gladly giving the star her blessing to go ahead with the remake. MGM is currently meeting with screenwriters, with the production expected to get underway at some point in 2016.
