Mark Hamill's initial reaction to The Last Jedi script: 'I fundamentally disagree with every choice you've made for this character'

Did you watch the Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer and feel like Luke was acting a bit out of character? Well, you're not the only one. Mark Hamill was similarly bamboozled by the direction taken by the next film, according to Vanity Fair.

In a recent interview with the magazine, Hamill said he had a small conflict with director Rian Johnson. "I at one point had to say to Rian, 'I pretty much fundamentally disagree with every choice you’ve made for this character.'" And that's just… I mean, damn. I don't know how I'd react to that. I imagine it kind of being like writing fanfic of your favorite hero, and then having that hero say "This is bad and wrong." To your face.

Still, Hamill is a professional, and he followed up voicing his disagreement with a courteous response. "'Now, having said that, I have gotten it off my chest, and my job now is to take what you’ve created and do my best to realize your vision,'" he reportedly told Johnson.

Besides, Hamill says he himself has "thousands of really terrible ideas," so it's not like he's putting himself above Johnson or anyone else. Sometimes things happen we don't like and it's okay to just say "I disagree" and not make it a big deal, which is what it sounds like Hamill did here. Kudos.

If you're interested in Hamill's ideas despite his self-deprecation, here's how he thought The Force Awakens should've ended and what he thinks about The Last Jedi's title.
