Does having excerpts Marilyn Monroe’s correspondence read out by modern celebrities add anything to our understanding of the tragic screen icon?

Not really, but that doesn’t stop Liz Garbus’ doc being an affecting tribute. Lindsay Lohan, Uma Thurman and Evan Rachel Wood are among those reciting her prose, while Ben Foster, Paul Giamatti and others chip in as the voices of those she met along the way.

But given the number of Marilyn memorials already out there, this is just another pleasant, un-revelatory way to say goodbye Norma Jean.
