Injustice 2 coming 2017, lets you customize Batman and co. with gear

It turns out the glowing armor on Batman and The Flash in that leaked Injustice 2 poster is a big deal. Along with officially confirming the DC Comics fighting game sequel is coming to PS4 and Xbox One in 2017, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment revealed that the new game is super into customizing heroes with RPG-style loot drops these days.

In your typical fantasy game, RPG-style loot drops would mean color-coded, oversized shoulder pieces and… that's still not far off the mark.

The trailer has appearances from Superman, the Flash, Batman, Super Girl (the only new character to appear), and Aquaman. A press release from WBIE confirms that new-to-Injustice villains like Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd will also join the roster.

Those are the base characters, but developer NetherRealm Studios wants each one of them to become increasingly unique as you play them. Injustice 2 will regularly give you loot drops filled with character-specific gear that affects both play style and look (Batman was sporting a nice nod to the Batman Beyond series at the end of the trailer). Sort of like clipping on a missile launcher accessory to your favorite action figure.

It sounds like you'll be able to use the gear in both multiplayer and the single-player campaign, which continues to follow Batman's fight against the oppressive Superman regime. Injustice takes place in a bizarro world where Superman and a bunch of other heroes are evil, if you aren't familiar with the original game. But, er, not the bizarro world where everything has "Bizarro" in front of its name.
