Gran Turismo 7 on PS4 'done in about a year or two,' producer says

Gran Turismo 6 is coming exclusively to PS3 on Dec. 6, weeks after PS4 first hits store shelves. But it won't be quickly tuned up for a next-gen re-release, producer Kazunori Yamauchi told Famitsu (via Polygon).

Instead, a sequel is in order.

"The PlayStation 4 game which we'll likely call GT7 will be done in about a year or two," Yamauchi said.

You would be forgiven for doubting that timetable: it would be the fastest turnaround since Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec arrived less than two years after Gran Turismo 2. Gran Turismo 5 took (it seems so appropriate now) five years to release, and Gran Turismo 6 will have gestated inside Polyphony's manual-transmission belly for at least three years when it arrives.

But Yamauchi said the differences between generations are less significant to the series this time around, so perhaps he'll be able to keep his word.

"The PlayStation 4's large memory size is a unique trait," he said, "but in terms of CPU performance, the PS3's Cell chip, while difficult to handle, is really capable. They both have different advantages. Besides, I think the online community aspect, one of the most fun parts of GT, doesn't have anything to do with the platform."
