Getting treasures in Fire Emblem: Awakening can sometimes be as challenging as defeating any one of the game’s bosses. You often compete with fast moving Ruffians on the enemy side who will take the treasures for themselves. Granted, these items and weapons aren’t required to beat the game, but they certainly help in making the battles easier. Our guide not only details when you have to race against Ruffians, but we also list other opportunities to get treasures beyond chests.

PARALOGUE 1 - SICKLE TO SWORD

Chests (2) on the upper right contents: Rescue Staff & Killer Lance, one will be taken by the Ruffian
This map has an industrious Ruffian who’ll take a treasure from the upper left part of the map. We don’t know why he would unwisely run all the way south to escape, but that presents an opportunity for two or three characters to intercept him. Just take the small party along the bottom of the map, right to left. There’ll be resistance at first, but you should be able to reach the Ruffian before he escapes.

XENOLOGUE 1 - CHAMPIONS OF YORE 1 (DLC)

There aren’t any treasure chests in Fire Emblem: Awakening’s first free DLC map (now available), but this area does introduce the incentive of visiting villages. This map features two villages and visiting them will reward you with one treasure each. There are no special requirements or Ruffians to compete with. Note that village rewards in this DLC are generated randomly.

PARALOGUE 2: THE SECRET SELLER

Village Reward: Physic Staff
Before you take on the boss at the bottom of this map, take two or three characters to the upper right part of the map where a very skilled merchant is killing enemies left and right. You can help her as well as visit the village for a treasure reward.

CHAPTER 6: FORESEER

Chest on the upper middle contents: Secret BookThere’s only one chest in this map but you can leave your keys behind. This is the map where you can recruit Gaius, a thief who can open doors and chests without keys.

PARALOGUE 3: A STRANGLED PEACE

Village Reward: Blessed Bowl
Rescued Villager(s): Seraph Robe and Log

There are no treasure chests in this map, but there’s a village you can visit. If you can save at least one of the three escaping villagers, you’ll get two additional treasures.

CHAPTER 8: THE GRIMLEAL

Village Rewards: Rescue, Master Seal, Second SealThere are no chests here, but there are three villages to visit. There are no special requirements or Ruffians to compete with.

PARALOGUE 4: ANNA THE MERCHANT

Chest on the left contents: Bullion (L)
No resistance. Note that this is the map where you can recruit Anna, who has lockpicking skills. She’s near this chest and can open it, saving you a key.

Chest on the upper left contents: Killing Edge
No resistance.

Chests (2) on the upper right contents: Mend and Arms Scroll
There’s a speedy Ruffian who will take one of the two treasures and leave in about 4 turns. The best way to intercept him is to head straight along the right side of the map with three or four characters. If you recruited Gaius, use him to open the doors and chests. Otherwise, make sure you have a character with both a chest key and a door key.

CHAPTER 10: RENEWAL

4 Ruffians: Master Seal, Seraph Robe, Wyrmslayer, Bullion (M)
This chapter actually doesn’t have treasure chests, but it does have four Ruffians who possess stolen treasure. For this you’ll need your most mobile warriors, which is pretty much anyone on a horse (winged or otherwise). You start off on the bottom right of the map and the Ruffians will try to escape toward the top.

CHAPTER 11: MAD KING GANGREL

Chest on the left contents: Bullion (L)
You have to compete against a Ruffian who’ll make a beeline for the chest unless you move down the map and get his attention. If you’re worried about spreading your party too thinly, you can still move your entire party as one well-protected huddle, but you should make your way down and to the left toward the chest before focusing on the boss, Gangrel.

Chest on the right contents: Goddess Icon
No resistance

CHAPTER 14: FLAMES ON THE BLUE

Chests (2) on the right contents: Bullion (M) and Recover Staff
Focus on this pair of chests first and don’t get too close to the ship below or else that crew might get provoked.

Chest on the bottom contents: Second Seal
No Ruffians to compete with, just a formidable squad and pegasus knights that can fly in out of nowhere.

PARALOGUE 5: SCION OF LEGEND

1) To unlock this chapter, you need to give Lissa a Support relationship of ‘S’.
2) This is another map without treasure chests, but there are villagers with rewards.
3) Unlike past villages, the villagers on this map are exposed to enemy attacks.

That said, if you want the three rewards of this map, you should have both mobile allies and at least one ally who can wield a Rescue Staff. This combination will allow you to take on the enemies who are targeting the villagers and by using the Rescue Staff, you can teleport the villagers to safer spots. The map layout is especially challenging because your entire squad starts off in one corner of the map while the furthest villager is near the opposite corner.

Villager on the top - Rescued Villager: Elixer

Villager on the lower right - Rescued Villager: Speed Tonic

Villager on the lower left - Rescued Villager: Spirit Dust

Chapter 15: Smoldering Resistance

This time around, the villagers are protected, but you still need to visit each of them for the rewards. The village doors are laid out in a row. Numbering the rewards from left to right, here’s what you can find:

1) Second Seal 2) Arms Scroll 3) Physic 4) Bullion (L)

Chapter 17: Inexorable Death

Left treasure room contents: Boots and Seraph Robe
If you want to head off the thieving Ruffian, move your squad along the left and middle paths.

Right treasure room contents: Master Seal and Bullion (L)
No resistance

Chapter 18: Sibling Blades

Ah, the obligatory ‘deteriorating SRPG map’. Actually, this map isn’t deteriorating so much as it is being consumed by lava. Your characters can still walk on those dicey surfaces; they will just get 10 HP knocked off at each turn. On the bright side, the lava encroaches from the top and bottom parts of the map and the treasure chests are near the middle.

Chests (2) on the left contents: Energy Drop and Second Seal
No resistance (just watch out for lava).

Chests (2) on the right contents: Rescue Staff and Bullion (M)
No resistance (just watch out for lava).

Chapter 20: The Sword or the Knee

Left treasure room contents: Dragonstone (Enhanced) and Second Seal
If you want to head off the thieving Ruffian, move your squad along the left and middle paths.

Right treasure room contents: Beaststone (Enhanced) and Spirit Dust
No resistance.

Chapter 21: Five Gemstones

The challenge in this map is that every treasure is in its own room, so having both Anna and Gaius (and their lockpicking skills) would be very helpful. Make sure they also have health items.

Upper left treasure room contents: Secret Book
We recommend Anna for this room. The mages in this mission have extremely long reach and by now Anna should be strong enough to withstand several attacks.

Middle treasure room contents: Noble Rapier
No resistance.

Right treasure room contents: Fortify Staff
No resistance.

Left treasure room contents: Bullion (L)
If you really want this block of gold, send two or three of your most mobile allies. It’s a bit of a trek and you might get the attention of the boss. You need to be quick because your counterattacks might kill off the boss before you have the chance to take the treasure.

Paralogue 6: A Man for Flowers

1) To unlock this chapter, you need to give Olivia a Support relationship of ‘S’.
2) There aren’t any treasure chests in this chapter, but there are rewards based on how many enemies the new character, Inigo kills.

Inigo kills 1: Elixir
Inigo kills 2: Elixir, Killing Edge
Inigo kills 3: Elixir, Killing Edge, Speedwing
Inigo kills 4: Elixir, Killing Edge, Speedwing, Bullion (M)
Inigo kills 5: Elixir, Killing Edge, Speedwing, Bullion (M), Hammerne

Paralogue 7: Noble Lineage

1) To unlock this chapter, you need to give Maribelle a Support relationship of ‘S’.
2) There aren’t any treasure chests in this chapter, but there are rewards based on how many villagers you save.

1 Villager saved: Mend
2 Villagers saved: Mend, Blessed Lance
3 Villagers saved: Mend, Blessed Lance, Bullion (M)
4 Villagers saved: Mend, Blessed Lance, Bullion (M), Seraph Robe
5 Villagers saved: Mend, Blessed Lance, Bullion (M), Seraph Robe, Recover Staff

Paralogue 8: A Duel Disgraced

1) To unlock this chapter, you need to give Sully a Support relationship of ‘S’.

Chest on the left contents: Short Spear
No resistance.

Chest on the right contents: Bullion (M)
No resistance.

Paralogue 10: Ambivalence

1) To unlock this chapter, you need to give Cordelia a Support relationship of ‘S’.

Chest on the center contents: Bullion (M)
No resistance.

Chest on the upper right contents: Bullion (M)
There’s a door in the way so we recommend using a thief to reach this chest.

Paralogue 11: Twin Wyverns

1) To unlock this chapter, you need to give Cherche a Support relationship of ‘S’.
2) There aren’t any treasure chests in this chapter, but there are rewards based on how many villagers you save.

1 Villager saved: Wyrmslayer
2 Villagers saved: Wyrmslayer, Arms Scroll
3 Villagers saved: Wyrmslayer, Arms Scroll, Recover Staff
4 Villagers saved: Wyrmslayer, Arms Scroll, Recover Staff, Bullion (M)
5 Villagers saved: Wyrmslayer, Arms Scroll, Recover Staff, Bullion (M), Seraph Robe

Paralogue 12: Disowned by Time

1) To unlock this chapter, you need to give your avatar a Support relationship of ‘S’.

Chest on the lower right contents: Bullion (M)
This is the first one you should go after as there’s a Ruffian you’ll have to compete with.

Chest on the upper right contents: Second Seal
No resistance.

Chest on the upper left contents: Fortify Staff
No resistance.

Paralogue 13: Rival Bands

1) To unlock this chapter, you need to give Panne a Support relationship of ‘S’.
2) This is another map without treasure chests, but there are villages with rewards.

Upper left village reward: Beast Killer
Left village reward Energy Drop
Upper middle village reward: Dragonstone
Middle village reward: Hammer

Paralogue 14: Shadow in the Sands

1) To unlock this chapter, you need to give Miriel a Support relationship of ‘S’.
2) This is another map without treasure chests, but there are villages with rewards. And since this map is set in a desert, not all the villages appear immediately. You need to visit one in order for the other villages to appear; it’s a mirage thing.

Upper right village reward: Strength Tonic
Upper left village reward: Speedwing
Lower right village reward: Bullion (L)

Paralogue 16: Daughter to Dragons

1) To unlock this chapter, you need to give Nowi a Support relationship of ‘S’.

Chest on the upper left contents: Bullion (M)
There’s a door in the way so we recommend using a thief to reach this chest.

Chests (2) on the lower left contents: Second Seal & Recover Staff
No resistance.
