Plus three spellbinding new stills

Maleficent has released a brand new teaser trailer online, revealing Angelina Jolie in all her evil-doing glory as the title character.

Hot on the heels of an official poster that showcased her impressive headgear , the teaser is our first good look at the fairytale film that’s set to hit cinemas in 2014.

Maleficent is a character you may recognise from Sleeping Beauty : she’s the evil enchantress who put the snoozing spell on Princess Aurora (here played by Elle Fanning) after being shunned from her birthday celebrations.

This revisionist version aims to flesh out Maleficent’s back story, to explain how she ended up in exile. Disney had great box-office success retelling the story of Oz The Great And Powerful , so it’ll be interesting to see if this iconic villainess has the same draw for audiences.
