Silver Samurai

Silver Samurai

This life-size shiny fella had just been built when we stumbled upon him in Petco Park's interactive zone. Wolverine's sword swinging foe maybe deadly with a blade but this life-size model had an extra layer of danger: in the blinding heat the metal structure was hotter than the sun!

The Justice League's Wheels

The Justice League's Wheels

DC unveiled the last of eight cars inspired by the Justice League - there's one of Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Superman and Cyborg plus the final Justice League car which DC co-publisher and comic-book artist extraordinaire Jim Lee actually finished live on stage.

OK, we're not convinced that the Dark Knight would really drive a Kia (Aquaman totally would though) but the cars were cool and the project's for charity - they're part of an eBay auction for We Can Be Heroes (head to eBay to bid).

The Justice League car is a seven seater and each seat is individually allocated to a superhero. Guess who has to squash in the middle? Yeah it's Green Lantern. Sucker!

The Ender's Game Fan Experience

The Ender's Game Fan Experience

Featuring real sets from the actual film, we were treated to a peek inside the world of Ender's Game where Earth is under attack from the ruthless 'buggers' (yep) and turns to its children - specifically kid genius Ender (Asa Butterfield) - as saviours of humanity. We saw sets from the battle academy, Ender's home and training unit and stood in front of a green-screen and pretended to be in zero gravity (stood on one leg, put arms out).

Edge Of Tomorrow's suits

Edge Of Tomorrow's suits

Doug Liman's sci-fi adap in which Tom Cruise plays Lt Col Bill Cage has changed it's name from All You Need Is Kill to Edge Of Tomorrow and the most frequent response we heard at the Warner stand was 'never heard of it'. Still Emily Blunt's black and red exoskeleton, which helps her Rita Vrataski fight alien invaders, does look cool.

Spidey takes over the Hard Rock

Spidey takes over the Hard Rock

San Diego's friendly neighbourhood Spider-man is owning the Hard Rock hotel, making us super-excited for the Sony panel on Friday 19 July when we're expecting some sneaky footage introduced by the cast and director Marc Webb.

Electro is sulking round the corner on the other wall in a massive great hoodie.

Captain America salutes us!

Captain America salutes us!

Decorating one of the walls surrounding the Marvel booth is this rather magnificent piece of Captain America artwork.

Marvel sequel The Winter Soldier is one of the most hotly anticipated films of the Con, due to be previewed at Marvel's Hall H event on Saturday 20 July 2013, and this image is likely to bring out the patriot in you.

The Sentinels are coming!

The Sentinels are coming!

Bolivar Trask is the creator of the Sentinels, and Peter Dinklage is playing him in X-Men: Days Of Future Past .

In this rather nifty spot of viral marketing, a stand outside the Convention Centre gave us a first look at what we can expect from the Sentinels in the upcoming X-sequel.

Some anti-mutant, pro-Sentinel propaganda posters were being passed out to lucky Con attendees, making the prospect of Bryan Singer's latest appearing in the Fox panel all the more mouthwatering.

The Big Bang Theory look super

The Big Bang Theory look super

The Big Bang Theory is one of the most popular properties at Comic-Con, perhaps because Leonard and Sheldon have so lovingly embraced the Con and all it stands for during the course of the show.

There was plenty of TBBT art to be seen, but this superhero number particularly caught our eye... a super-powered movie spin-off waiting to happen, surely?

Thor is going to be big

Thor is going to be big

Over in the Marvel section of 'the floor', Thor: The Dark World dominated, thanks in no small part to a fully-armoured Asgardian, strutting his stuff on the stage.

Hinting at the world-building that's set to come in the sequel, it's made attendees all the more excited for Marvel's flagship movie panel.

LEGO Iron Man!

LEGO Iron Man!

If anything sums up the giddy geek joy of the convention centre, it's this life-sized LEGO model of Iron Man, resplendent in his full armour.

It's a superhero, it's made out of LEGO, and it's grin-inducingly cool: the Con in a nutshell.
