Cheating on online ranked matches has become a common practice in FIFA 09, more common than in any other game. It has reached such high levels that fans report that almost 30% of online ranked matches result against people using Dream Teams or Edited Teams.

EA once again, did nothing about it.

Xorloser noticed the other day that when FIFA'09 for Xbox360 is patched with the latest update, the flags that specify what media the game is allowed to run from have changed. Originally it was allowed to boot from a standard original Xbox360 disc, however now it is only allowed to boot from a new media type which is basically an updated version of the original Xbox360 disc type.

Those who have ever looked into the depths of the Xbox360 disc authentication scheme know that a "new" type of disc authentication has been in the works since the Xbox360 was released. It is known as the AntiPiracy v2.5 checks, or AP2.5. Is this FIFA'09 patch a sign that AP2.5 is finally going to see the light of day? If so then the ban hammer is going to come down hard.

Xbox Only writes: We've seen baseball cards integrated into 2K Sports' MLB 2K series and now EA Sports is getting back into the card game with a downloadable expansion for FIFA 09. Dubbed "Ultimate Team", this mode will be available on March 19 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game and will likely cost $14.99on PS3or 1200 MS points.

The new Ultimate team mode is based on ideas from the Champions League version but is a completely new version and is a much bigger and a more complete experience, particularly with regard to online. In Champions League, it was just a game mode within the game. This time around it is the game, and EA is able to put a lot more resource and effort into it.

EA's FIFA 09 has become UK's all-format Christmas number one following an eleventh-hour sales surge at the retailers. With 20 Playstation 3 consoles and 10 vs 10 (irl soccer players and known Dutchies) the event was huge and the pictures looks really nice.

"OK lads it seems that the official patch has been released into the wild this evening. When I turned my game today I received an update and looking around the official forums it seems many other 360 users have also. PS3 users are still waiting it seems but with the PSN usually slower to update I'm sure it will be along soon. "42% of sales were on Xbox 360, making it the 3rd fastest selling game on Microsoft's format (behind GTA IV and Halo 3), while 40% of sales were on PS3 where it is the 2nd fastest selling game (behind GTA IV). The PS2 version accounted for 11% of sales and PSP 3%, while Nintendo's formats and PC made up the remainder. "

The price war continues between retail stores yet again. EA's FIFA 09 is set to have a price slash this weekend.

- Tesco are selling the game at a reduced price of £29.99 for PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms

- Asda are also reducing their price, selling FIFA 09 for £32 on the PS3 and Xbox 360 platform

- You can also pick up a good deal at Blockbuster, which is selling the game for £34.99 and are giving away a free football and £5 off any other game.

Xbox360Achievements.org have just unveiled the achievements for EA's latest installment in the FIFA franchise

Due to touchdown on October 3rd, FIFA 09 will feature 48 achievements totaling 1000 points.

It doesn't look like a bad list and has plenty of variation but that's just from what we can see because the game features 17 secret achievements.

EA and Gillette doing huge 360 tourney (News)

Eurogamer reports that EA Sports and Gillette will be running an enormous Xbox Live competition in October to win a trip to Florida and chance to take on sports stars such as Tiger Woods at their own game.

Other sponsored clean-shaven celebrities Thierry Henry and Roger Federer will be there as well, but neither of them actually have their own game, which would have made the bit above sound strange.

There will be plenty of other prizes besides - consoles, games, razors, shaving foam, David Beckham maybe - and all you need to do to win is be good at EA Sports titles.

EA scared some folks into thinking they canned the Club component from FIFA 09 but a press release today showed they have in fact kept the feature in both PS3 and Xbox 360 version.

This is essentially a clan feature...for soccer. Now I know that the game will sell like hotcakes in Europe but if EA can have the feature for a sports game, why can't they add this to the many FPS games they put out?

Battlefield: Bad Company is a perfect example of the type of game that should have this feature. Soccer yes, shoot-em-ups no. Thank the Gods for SOCOM.

"PS3 FIFA 09's graphics will be "at least as good" as 360 FIFA 09's, EA has promised. Producer David Rutter said that some multiplatform game developers had in the past struggled to get the PS3 version up to scratch simply because they started working on Microsoft's console first. However, Rutter said that EA development on PS3 has now "caught up" and it has achieved "parity" on its multiplatform games."

CVG writes: "EA is already boasting about FIFA 09's new toy, its customizable tactics system, claiming that it allows up to "50,000 different combinations of tactics". Try and find 'em all!

Speaking in the latest issue of PSM3 UK, lead producer David Rutter boasts, "there are roughly 50,000 possible combinations. That's not really doing it justice. The point is there are over 40 different defensive ways to play and over 500 attacking ways."

In case you're not up to speed, the system works with a series of sliders "incorporating key parts of the team dynamic - aggression, mentality, positioning, etc". You can even assign four of your own custom plans to the D-pad and switch them mid-match."

FIFA 09 the latest installment of the top selling football franchise is being developed at EA Canada and is boasting over 251 improvements from FIFA 08. Over two weeks ago the game was shown at the EA Gamers Day. Here are the latest rumours circulating about the game:

- Improved physics system. FIFA 09 has an improved physics system which affects both players and the football itself allowing for beautiful, powerful and deveastating shots and unprecedented levels of realism during a match.

- Improved animation system. The brilliant animation system seen in FIFA 08 is improved upon to include hundreds of new animations for players that further add to the simulation feel of the game.

- New player faces. 3D player modelling is vastly improved and now offers unbelievable similarities to the real life counterparts.

- Increased response times and game speed. Player response times have been increased to increase the flow of the game as in real life, while game speed has been tweaked from FIFA 08.

The first details have started to trickle in on EA Sports' FIFA 09.

US mag GamePro reports "considerable gameplay improvements," the most significant of which sounds like "increased responsiveness" from passing, dribbling and the physical pushing and shoving that occurs in a game.

Apparently thanks to some excellent and refined animation work, FIFA 09 feels "much faster and more realistic" than previous iterations, and this ...
