Who do you think will die in The Passing tomorrow?

Tomorrow, someone is going to die. The Passing DLC for Left 4 Dead 2 is scheduled to release on April 22. It’s long been confirmed that the new campaign will bring together the survivors from the original Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. But it was also recently revealed that one of the original’s cast members will be called on to sacrifice himself (or herself) so that the rest of the group can move on. We have some theories about why we think Louis will die. But which character do you think will be the one who says goodbye forever? Review the facts from the official descriptions for each of the original survivors and tell us who you think will kick the bucket for good.

Above: One of these four characters will die tomorrow when The Passing DLC for Left 4 Dead 2 releases

Bill

It took two eventful tours in Vietnam, a handful of medals, a knee full of shrapnel, and an honorable discharge before the unthinkable happened: Bill ran out of wars. But now an army of infected undead has declared war on humanity. After decades of aimless drifting and dead-end jobs, Bill's finally gotten back the only thing he ever wanted: an enemy to fight.

Zoey

After spending her first semester holed up in a dorm room watching old horror movies, Zoey was given a choice: Stop fooling around and get her grades up, or drop out. Now that the planet's overrun with murderous zombies, and all of her professors are dead, Zoey at least has the cold comfort that she's been studying up on the right subject after all.

Francis

Cocky, loud, and pretty sure he's indestructible, Francis acts like the zombie apocalypse is the world's biggest bar fight. When the virus hit, everybody else stockpiled food and looked for a place to hide. Francis found a gun and had some fun. No cops, no laws, no order—if it wasn't for all the zombies, he could almost get used to life like this.

Louis

Louis had been working up the courage to quit his job as Junior Systems Analyst at his company's IT department when a virus showed up and downsized the world. Now Louis has a new set of goals (live long enough to succeed) and a new set of tools (guns, sharp objects) to help him achieve them. With any luck, he'll figure out how the new management operates before they get a chance to murder him.

UPDATE: The official Left 4 Dead blog has been updated with a special movie poster for The Passing. Look carefully in the background and you'll see silhouettes of only three of the four characters from the original cast. The first time we viewed the blog, Louis was missing from the trio, suggesting that he will be the one who will bite the bullet at the end of the campaign. But Valve's infamy for playing headgames with their fans, isn't giving away the surprise so easily. Keep clearing your browser's cache, and you'll eventually start finding different versions of the same poster with another character missing.

Above: In this version of the poster, it's clear that Francis, Zoey and Bill are present in the background

Above: Clear your cache, revisit the page, and you might see a different combination of silhouetted survivors. This time Zoey's missing!

I don't feel like spoiling it for those who haven't read it, but one of the original 4 doesn't appear in the Passing, and another seems injured. I'm assuming the L4D1 dlc coming up that leads into the Passing will revealed how the person died and how the other was injureed. It'll probably rely on user choice, and the Passing survivors were chosen randomly.

As long as zoey survives, kill off whoever the hell you want. ALso: Why does the black guy gotta die?!

I don't think it will be Louis because everyone thinks it will be him.

I've literally waiting for this for SOOOO long. I'm honestly still hoping this is a trick and that no one dies

If Bill dies I'll be so upset.

@510BrotherPanda You should, they're some of the best shooters out there, and definitely the best co-op game out there. =)

Maybe Valve will do something like the poster, and kill off one character in different endings! or maybe Francis. Lol.
  • 510BrotherPanda - April 21, 2010 10:11 p.m.

I don't play any of these shooters, but I'm going to say Alyx Vance's dad comes back from the dead, with sucked-out head, only to get the rest of his body sucked dry, acting as a meat shield for all of them.

@JohnnyMaverik I agree that the story-telling is a bit broken. It's pretty vague and is especially hard to really get all there is out of the story when your yelling over your mic about the smoker that just grabbed you. That's why I played through all the campaigns on single-player first, so I could get to know the characters a bit and actually read what's on the walls and stuff without someone yelling at me in my mic.

I thought Louis because, let's face it, the black guy always dies first. But I think that's what everyones expecting, so I bet it will be Bill. He'll do a whole "I'm old; you kids got more to live for; blah-blah-blah" and everyone will be sad. I just really hope it isn't Zoey. That would register with me a lot more since she is my favorite of the survivors and one of my favorite game characters of all time. I would cry. ='(
  • JohnnyMaverik - April 21, 2010 9:30 p.m.

It'll be Louis cuz he's my favourite and Valve want to make me cry :( In reality though I think the player who dies will vary from play through to play through with the players themselves making the choice, but with a "cannon" death being given away by Valve. That's what always happens with L4D, because as much as I quite like both the games, the story telling mechanics are kind of light and a little broken.
  • KillaWaleed - April 21, 2010 9:04 p.m.

I will really enjoy it if it will be random...and when they update L4D1, we will know who actually sacrifices.
  • n00b - April 21, 2010 9:04 p.m.

@erreip199 i think your right. that would be the best way to do it with out upsetting anyone
  • dannage805 - April 21, 2010 8:55 p.m.

c i figue it'l b a random survivor missing in the L4D2 DLC so then in the L4D1 DLC 1 player will actually have 2 sacrifice themselves. as far as i'm concerned these posters confirm it
  • profKevorkian - April 21, 2010 8:47 p.m.

Black guy always dies first. At least thats what I learned watching Canadian Bacon with John Candy.
  • GamesRadarTylerNagata - April 21, 2010 8:45 p.m.

At the time of this post 38 percent of you think Bill will die and 39 percent of you think Louis will die. Only 7 percent of you think it will be Zoey and only 14 percent of you voted for Francis.
