Whedon For Avengers?

Marvel and Buffy creator in final negotiations reckons website

Buffy creator Joss Whedon is in final negotiations with Marvel to direct The Avengers , according to Deadline New York .

The film, which is currently scheduled for a May 2012 release, would be a team-up of Marvel heroes, including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), with SHIELD boss Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) also in the mix. Other superheroes will probably also appear; Edward Norton, who played Bruce Banner/The Hulk in The Incredible Hulk has not ruled out appearing.

Whedon has only one previous movie directing credit to his name, 2005’s Serenity , the spin-off to his own TV series Firefly . That didn’t exactly set the box office alight, but was a critical hit and is still voted highly in fan polls for best SF movies ever.

Marvel has also recently announced that Pete (Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist) Sollett will direct a movie version of Runaways , based on its comics about a group of superpowered teenagers who go on run after discovering that their parents are supervillains.
