Welcome to GameCube Prison, the first season of a new regular video series looking back on console-exclusive games trapped behind technological bars. In this episode, we revisit Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, a GameCube-exclusive remake of Hideo Kojima's first Metal Gear Solid.
The Twin Snakes is an odd remake and often at odds with the original game - features added for the sake of parity with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty don't feel integral and, worse, trivialize classic boss encounters. The redone graphics do make it feel more contemporary, however, especially when placed against its sequel/prequel sibling, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. It also has some weird-ass cutscenes and, if you look closely, an actual weird ass. Maybe ... maybe don't look so closely.
