Warhammer 40K: Space Marine trailer divulges release date

Fancy finding out what happens when a videogame shooter takes Marines... into space?? If you can wait until September, you'll have your answer (spoiler: it involves baldness and teeth-gritting) courtesy of Relic's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. The title – which, well-covered tropes aside, offers a focus on one of the more storied examples of gaming's favorite future-man-with-a-gun – has been confirmed for a September 6 release via this new story trailer.

Space Marine is Relic Entertainment's first crack at extending the Warhammer 40k series out of its traditional role-play strategy mold and into the action-shooter genre, which (some have theorized) may be a good place for Space Marines. We gave the company's previous foray into third-person action, The Outfit, an 8. From the looks of this trailer, which sets the stakes for the game's story mode without actually going into much gameplay detail, are you excited to get better acquainted with the title come September?

Excited to say the least, just hoping for Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor if this sells well... which it probably won't considering as its going up against Gears of War 3 right around the same time. Wheeeeeeeeee.

As excited as I am for this game, I just hope it isn't the classic Warhammer video game plot (Dawn of War and Squad Command) Orks attack a human world, Space Marines go to clear it up but surprise! Chaos are manipulating the Orks! Maybe even throw in some Eldar for a spin! Really wish they'd break from those armies though, Fire Warrior was a nice change, but as I said at the start, I'm still really excited for this one.

Har har, let's make fun of space soldiers. Did you really have to follow the crowd on that one? And can you REALLY make fun of a "space marine" when said space marine is an Ultramarine, the ORIGINAL space marine? That said, I've hardly been more excited for a game in a long time. I've been waiting for a good and accurate depiction of the Warhammer 40k universe on console, or rather just an action-packed and personal one, for many years now! I'm not an RTS-er, so I couldn't get into the Dawn of War series, though I can't say I'm not fascinated by them. I can't WAIT to tear up some Orks and Chaos in the singleplayer and save the forge world, nor can I wait to cause carnage in the surprisingly fun-looking multiplayer. (Which reminds me of Transformers: WFC)

Definitely looking forward to this, especially since I've recently taken up interest in 40K with playing Dawn of War 2.

Who is to judge what is right and what is wrong? Great and powerful foes surround us; unknown miscreants gnaw at us from within. We are threatened with total annihilation. In days such as these we cannot afford the luxury of not getting this game. For the Emperor!

SPESS MEHREENS. Quite excited about this now. Unfortunately, with (saving up for) things like Skyrim and Gears 3, this is gonna have to be a rent. Still, It does look good, and gratuitously gory. I'm still excited. SPESS MEHREENS. That's my new favourite thing to say. DAMN YOU, REPAREZ.
