Uncharted 3 ships 3.8 million on launch day, more than Uncharted 2 sold in two months

In these days with massive launches seemingly every other day, it’s not too shocking to see millions of sales for the launches of major games. Battlefield 3 sold 5 million, Arkham City did 2 million in the first week and Gears of War 3 sold 3 million in the first week, all of which are impressive milestones, and last week’s biggest hit has done something quite notable as well. Today Sony revealed it moved 3.8 million copies worldwide of Nathan Drake’s most recent adventure, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

First off we should note that Gamasutra found out that number is 3.8 million shipped to retailers, not the actual number sold to consumers, but that doesn’t lessen the hugeness of the number by much. For a console exclusive to post those kinds of numbers is still remarkable (especially compared to the sales of Resistance 3), and it looks like Uncharted 3 has already sold more copies than Uncharted 2 did in the first two months. Were you one of the millions that picked it up last week, and did you think our 9/10 review score was 100% correct (because you should)?

One really has to wonder if people are buying anything else expect the blockbusters? I mean they can't have that much money, right? All of the second-greatest, non-blockbuster games doesn't stand a chance this month or December unless they're reduced on Steam's annual Christmas Sale. Anyway, Uncharted 3 is a great game and it deserves the numbers.

I've heard lots of people saying that 3 is a bit of a letdown after playing 2, since it's less fresh, but I haven't heard anyone say whether someone who hasn't played 2 should play 3 instead, if they would get as much out of 3 as people who played 2 when it was new got of that. I wonder how many of the people who got 3 haven't played 2 yet? When they go back to 2 will it seem stale to them, instead of the other way around?

That's good news. It's a good game that deserved the sales. I do actually agree with the score. Everyone needs to calm down about 9s. That's an amazing score. Don't give in to the bullying gamesradar. Rate games how you want (read: the correct way).

I don't agree with the review score, but the game is great and most of the concerns you guys raised were warranted.

Actually, no I didn't. In defiance to what the video game overlords would've had me do, I picked up Sonic Generations rather than this. I sure as hell do plan on getting Uncharted 3 pretty damned soon, though, along with Mario and Assassin's Creed and Metal Gear Solid and... is it really necessary to cram all of the greatest games of the year in the space of a few weeks?

I heard playing this game turns you gay. I think it has to do with staring at Nathans tight round worked out behind when he's climbing ladders. My nipples are hard just thinking about it.

That comment along with your profile picture makes you seem really creepy.
