Uncharted 3 Collector’s Edition looks good, especially when unboxed by Nolan North

Nathan Drake’s voice actor has some fun showing off extra-fancy set

Once upon a time, elaborately decorated, limited edition versions of hot new games were truly special, but these days every game under the sun gets a Collector’s Edition. Some have enough doodads that they might be worth it to the super fan, but others can’t be bothered to include more than a lame making-of DVD the extra $40 or so. When you head to stores this fall, just what will $99.99 score you in the Collector’s Edition of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception? Watch as Nolan North, the voice of Nathan Drake and 700 other game characters, opens up the premium release.

So the extra $40 gets you a pretty badass figure of Drake as he appears in Uncharted 3, though we think he looks a little chubby in the face. Additionally, all the would-be Drake cosplayers get two must-have accessories: Drake’s belt buckle from 3 and Sir Francis Drake’s ring, which he’s been carrying around since we first met him in 2007. Plus there’s a steel case edition of the game box, which carries the disc you were ultimately dropping all this money on. It all comes inside a faux treasure chest.

We’ll admit North makes a good argument for this version, and it has much you don’t see in a standard CE, but is it special enough? Will you be picking up this version on November 1, or sticking with the $60 standard release? Or are you a crazy person that’s skipping this game altogether?

After seeing this, I am starting to wonder why they don't just cast Nolan North as Nathan Drake in the movie He's obviously a good actor and the camera loves him. And he's isn't just the voice. He MoCaps Nathan Drake too, acting out all of the scenes.

See, this is how you do a Collector's Edition announcement; hire Nolan North, point a camera at him, and say "go." He'll do the rest, and all you have to do is sit back and watch the pre-order numbers rocket, instead of putting out a boring press release. I'm looking at you, Bethesda. And like most people who watched this, I'm utterly sold. Damn you Nolan North, Y U make me want your sexy, velvet lined Narnia box. I have no money, damn it!

Say what you will about art books, i was looking forward to one in the Uncharted 3 CE, and am a little disappointed I'm not getting one. Be that as it may, I'm have officially decided to preorder this. Yay me!

A great voice actor and a fantastic pitchman, is their anything Nolan North can't do? I don't normally care about collector editions, but his charm alone got me interested.

As a kid I once used a belt like a whip, pretending I was Indianna Jones. This package kinda reminds me of that. At least game developers are realizing the extra edition better actually have some cool stuff, not just a art booklet and some happy meal toy.
