UK Chart: Aliens Colonial Marines debuts at No.1

Aliens: Colonial Marines has shot its way to the top of the UK all formats chart.

Retail monitor Chart-Track said the title recorded the biggest launch of 2013 to date and the second highest week one sales for an Alien franchise game, behind Sega's Aliens vs Predator, which also launched on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in early 2010.

We said in our Aliens: Colonial Marines review: “Gaming owes a lot to James Cameron's Aliens films, but despite having its DNA present in just about every science fiction game ever made, Aliens has struggled to get a proper one of its own in the past decade. Aliens: Colonial Marines continues this disappointing trend, making for an experience that's more Aliens: Resurrection than it is Aliens.”

Dead Space 3, which topped the UK chart last week, slipped to No.2 following Colonial Marines’ release, while FIFA 13, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Far Cry 3 rounded off the top five.

GfK/Chart-Track Top 10 (previous week):

  1. Aliens: Colonial Marines (Sega)
  2. Dead Space 3 (EA)
  3. FIFA 13 (EA)
  4. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (Activision)
  5. Far Cry 3 (Ubisoft)
  6. Assassin's Creed 3 (Ubisoft)
  7. Need for Speed: Most Wanted (EA)
  8. Just Dance 4 (Ubisoft)
  9. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (Sega)
  10. Halo 4 (Microsoft)

IT's not that Bad of a Game, IT's a Good Shooter Game.

Somewhere, in the deep dark of this game, I found some small kernel of enjoyment. I was crushed that this game was not as good as it could be (or as good as what was promised, and shown) but I think you can still enjoy it. Maybe. If you squint really hard at certain points and don't think very much. Alternatively: My roomate can't stop laughing whenever he sees me playing it. My game glitched and the explosive, blind aliens didn't explode, no matter what I did. They just followed me like shivering puppies. Through the whole level. Up the elevator. Out of that area. No one shot them. So maybe a lot of people in the U.K. are getting drunk and having a blast at parties playing through it with others cheering them on?

All those poor people in the UK.

    Yep. Sad indeed.

Is it me or does it seem kind of odd that a large portion of that top 10 are games that have been out for a few months? I guess it just shows that the gaming industry is having fewer popular releases this time of year.
