Thor: God of Thunder trailer takes a surprising retro direction

The first trailer for Thor: God of Thunder recently aired on Spike’s VGA awards show. The teaser was introduced by Chris Hemsworth, who will be swinging the mighty Mjölnir hammer as god of thunder Thor in Paramount Picture’s upcoming film.

The trailer was later followed by director and writer Guillermo del Toro, who introduced his new game Insane after criticizing the film industry for not taking full advantage of videogames as a medium. Still, we have to give it up to developer Sega for being brave enough to take a surprisingly retro-themed approach to the upcoming game tie-in with the Thor film.

Above: Oh wait! That’s not Thor: God of Thunder! It's God of Thunder, an action/puzzle game that released in 1996. You can see what the new third-person action game based on the upcoming film really looks like below

Thor: God of Thunder is scheduled to release in spring 2011 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Nintendo DS, and Wii.
