This guy plays game soundtracks on his violin and is brilliant at it

Youtube is a bottomless well of time wasting nonsense, isn’t it? And we’ve had some good times with the site, plus we’re suckers for anyone playing Mario music on anything, most recently in the form of an excellent beatbox version of the famous theme. So obviously, we had to share this with you the moment we found it:

Above: This is only the beginning

Lots of people can do the music, but matching the on-screen sound effects at the same time? That’s above and beyond what we expected.

But, who cares, right? “That may be impressive, but everyone does a Mario Bros music video,” you say as you roll your eyes. That’s what we thought too, but then we went to the artist's Youtube page and saw dozens of other classic games getting the same treatment from the snappy dresser. Here, take a look:

Above: Dragon Quest

Above: Donkey Kong

Above: Dragon Quest III

If you want to see all that this violin virtuoso/Famicom fanboy has to offer, check his Youtube page. But let it be known to all the other guys out there who make videos of themselves only playing the Mario theme, the gauntlet has been thrown.

Holy shit what a find Henry! This guy is amazing. It is cool to see people play video game music but you are right, how many people have you seen play with the game and do all the sound effects with the music on the fly? Absolutely amazing. I think Super Mario 3 or Donkey Kong is my favorite. Thank you so much showing this Henry.

Ok, his rendition of Twin Bee almost brought tears to my eyes. I completely forgot about playing that game with my brother as a little kid and the music just brought me right back there. Thank you so much Hank.

Question. Am I the only one who was bothered by the fact that the player in the SMB3 video didn't get the leaf and as a result didn't go up to the cloud platforms to get the 1-up? Because that was just a stupid move. The violinist was very enjoyable though.
  • JohnnyApplesperm - June 28, 2010 3:56 a.m.

Wow... that is truly awesome. That guy has got skill and dedication. Also the Famicom and FDS made me happy.. gotta get me one of those sometime. ConVito: yeah, I actually found myself getting upset at the amount of stuff the player was missing in that. But regardless that violinist is awesome!
  • NoobNeutralizer - June 28, 2010 6:16 a.m.

That is one of the most EPIC things ever...
  • GameManiac - June 28, 2010 3:52 p.m.

Damn...I'd kill to be able to play the violin as well as this guy. I've only begun playing it around March, and I've still got a lot to learn.
  • ZenRobot - June 28, 2010 11:27 p.m.

He needs to do one for Mario 3 World 3 (water land) aka Great Fairy Theme from Zelda (aka very similar chord progression to the Wii Shop Channel music) AKA the best nintendo song ever. Nintendo nailed this classic bossa nova groove and just kept on using it. and i hope they use it for another 100 years.
