The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings to release for Xbox 360 at the end of the year

Shares

The going consensus seems to be that the best RPG released for the PC so far this year was not BioWare’s Dragon Age II, but rather CD Projekt’s The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. GamesRadar gave the mature RPG a glowing review, awarding it with a perfect score. It’s already been reported that Witcher 2 developer CD Projekt has had plans for a console version of the game. So it’s exciting to hear an official announcement that console owners will have the pleasure of playing The Witcher 2 when it releases for the Xbox 360 by the end of the year.

“We are not compromising any quality. The Witcher 2 will not be dumbed down for consoles,” said one CD Projekt representative during the company’s summer conference call. The developer is hoping to preserve all of the game’s complexity and mature content. However, in regards to The Witcher 2’s gorgeous visuals, you can expect the game’s textures to take a bit of a dip in the console version when compared to how the game looks on a high-end gaming rig. But according to CD Projekt, “It’s not the size of the boat that matters; it’s the motion in the ocean.”

CD Projekt had nothing to say about a PlayStation 3 version of the RPG, but the developer did announce plans to have the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2 on show at E3 2011 – and GamesRadar will be there to let you know how the console version compares to the PC original.

Awesome, I'm always up for more RPGs, which like FPS is one of my favorite new genres aside from RTS (the genre that got me gaming).

The more people that get to experience how awesome this game is, the better. Has been an absolute joy on PC, so even with the textures not being quite as fancy, it's well worth it. I hope the PS3 folks get their own version eventually.

This is exciting news, but the majority of European RPG ports to 360 don't turn out so well. See Risen, Divinity 2, Divinity: DKS, Arcania, Two Worlds, etc. Of course, none of these games were originally as good as Witcher 2, so let's hope CD Projekt bucks the trend.

If this game is better than Dragon Age, which I hear it is, then you can count me in. Funny though, a while back I could have sworn that OXM did a preview of this game.

Awesome. After hearing the rumors for so long, I had assumed that this game was coming to consoles. I read your review and was really excited, then realized the day before it came out that it was PC only. That was a bummer. Now I'm excited again. Hopefully they'll tweak the funky difficulty curve.

Prepare for at least seven discs. Oh well, at least it's coming to consoles so that the company will get the sales they deserve. I can't wait, no matter how much I'll have to exercise by getting up to change discs.

Sweet, I can't wait to not play this on my PS3.

I've said this several times now - WHY WAS THIS NOT SAVED UNTIL MICROSOFT'S CONFERENCE? This is the PERFECT reveal! Or rather it was because YOU BLEW IT MICROSOFT.

@MyNameIsMyName: Flip the script on that. The 360's coding environment is more akin to a PC's than the PS3. MS made sure that coding for the Xbox was as painless as possible. @Cheva: Over. 100% positive.

    Over or under 2 disc.

Nice, this game had me thinking it was time to upgrade my pc, but if this game plays any better on console than it would on my pc then this is very good news, medium settings and 30fps is all im asking

Hopefully comes to PS3 as well (ps3 only owner with a crappy computer), but exciting for the xbox gamers. Unfortunately I don't like the release time. I hope that it does not get lost in the fall months.

I will most definitely buy this for 360 as I don't have a great PC
  • MyNameIsMyName - June 2, 2011 9:14 p.m.

Weird the PS3 is closer to a PC than the 360 yet few games are PC+PS3 but there are plenty PC+360. Is it a Microsoft thing?
  • dontshootthereviewer - June 2, 2011 9:05 p.m.

YESSS I wanted to play this soo bad!
  • therawski - June 2, 2011 9:04 p.m.

I have a 360, but I'm going to wait for the PS3 version, I'd rather wait then swap discs during.
  • musashi1596 - June 2, 2011 9:01 p.m.

PS3 owners to be ignored yet again, joy of joys...
