TGS 2011: The console war parody rages on with Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2

Just like in real life, the console war continues on in Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2, just announced for release in the US and Europe at NIS America's recent TGS event. If you're unfamiliar with the series, you can check out our FAP of the first game, but all you really need to know is that it's a JRPG about the console wars. Each console is personified as an adorable girl with looks and personality befitting of her console, and they all duke it out Highlander style, basically.

The same cast of characters will return in Mk2, but the battle system has been totally revamped. We're told battles will be more strategic this time, the combo system will be streamlined to be faster, and the overmap and exploration are receiving overhauls as well. We're eager to see what improvements the sequel will make over its predecessor, so look for more details before Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2 releases next Spring.

This sequel is going to have you play as the little sisters of the four goddess from the first game at the begginning and instead the little sister's would be personified as the handhelds rather than consoles, since microsoft doesn't have a handheld of their own its gonna be lonely for the xbox goddess while the wii has little twin sisters.

I hope Sony chick gets hacked by anon, Microsoft chick fights without a weapon calling it "innovative" and Nintendo chick apologises repeatedly for the 3DS...

I found the first one to be really boring but funny at times. Hopefully this one isn't as bad

I watched the FAP for the first game a few months ago, went to go buy the game and I could only find it for ~$90. I am gonna pre-order this one and hope it isn't terribad.

I kind of liked the first one. The nature of the parody was rather interesting, the script was quite good, if repetitive, and the humour could be genuinely funny at times, but it all screamed of an underdeveloped game. Hopefully this one fixes some of the biggest problems, including uninteresting battles, dodgy frame rate, HUD aliasing issues and inability to heal outside of battle. The game had potential, but it just couldn't tap into it.

apparently i am the only person on gr to play the first one and i am happy that they revamped the battle system since the first one was terrible but had has a good story and was entertaining.

Its hard to be excited for a game that's a sequel to one that took it hard in the ass from reviewers. But a better battle system definitely would help.

Highlander: Game Console Wars?! I keep seeing cheap pre-owned copies of the first game on store shelfs, but the bad reviews put me off it.

The wii girl must be rich but not really fun and complicated to play with.
  • Errrrbo - September 19, 2011 9:44 a.m.

I'm intrigued. Skipped the first one, but I'm a big NISA fan so I'm up for this.
  • BlackElement17 - September 19, 2011 9:05 a.m.

But will there be red rings?
  • jackthemenace - September 19, 2011 8:48 a.m.

Man, I really wish I could find a cheap version of the original, the only one I can find is, like, £50 D: The first one looks absolutely brilliant though, hopefully this one gets a wider release in the UK
