Target ad reportedly shows PS Vita $200 sale

Hold steady, portable bargain hunters. Target will place all of its PS Vita consoles on sale for $200 from Aug. 18 to 24, if a flier posted on Blu-ray forum (via CheapAssGamer) is accurate.

The deal applies to all PS Vita systems--both the Wi-Fi only model, which normally retails for $250, and the 3G model, which retails for $300. You could also get a $10 Target gift card if you buy Splinter Cell: Blacklist and a twelve-pack of Sunkist (official soft drink of Fourth Echelon).

PS Vita's prices have already been cut in Japan, improving the system's sales markedly. The flier is set to hit mailboxes the week before GamesCom begins in Cologne, Germany, and we certainly wouldn't mind if Sony took the opportunity to announce a new price point.

Remember how everyone whined about the 3DS's poor launch but then everything was okay after a few months when Mario and Zelda titles released? PSVita had a marginally better launch and has done next to nothing since. I don't even think a $200 sale will convince me to invest in the handheld. Not until I'm convinced I won't be as disappointed with it as I was with my PSP anyway.

I want to get a vita but I agree with the people saying that there isn't enough amazing games for it. I mean, P4G is the main reason I want to get a vita but I can't justify spending nearly £150 on a console for just one game.

Unfortunately, the Vita still isn't worth it. I've owned one since launch, and it really is a dud of a console. Had a lot of promise, but it feels just like the PSP did.

I recently got a Vita for $200 at a Sony store. It's a good price for the system. Hopefully this sale at Target results in lots of Vita sales. Enough for Sony to consider a permanent price drop.

This is pretty enticing. I just got a PS3 a couple weeks ago, and the Vita looks like a good catch with all the PSP and Vita and crossplay titles. Thanks for the heads up, Connor!

Go for it! The Vita library gets a bad rap but now it's to the point that even though the system hasn't had it's "killer app" yet, no one can say "The Vita has no games." Lots of great downloadables for it. I only have maybe physical games, the rest are downloaded. But be prepared to pay outrageous amounts of money for those memory cards. That's the only real downside if this price cut is to be expanded.
