Shovel Knight Kickstarter signs original Mega Man composer

Shovel Knight is an ode to Capcom games gone by, with attacks and movement inspired by DuckTales' fancy canework and bosses and structure inspired by Mega Man. With nine days remaining in the campaign, developer Yacht Club Games announced it has even signed Mega Man's original composer to provide two tracks for the nostalgic platformer.

Manami Matsumae's work on the series ended with the first Mega Man (until she was asked to contribute to Mega Man 9 and 10), but her contributions defined some of gaming's most-hummed soundtracks long after Cutman and Gutsman fell to the Blue Bomber.

Developer Yacht Club Games has quite a legacy to uphold. The studio is staffed with WayForward veterans of Contra 4, A Boy and His Blob, and Double Dragon: Neon, so they have some experience bringing retro designs to modern life, at the very least.

Shovel Knight is slated for completion on PC in September 2013, and Wii U and 3DS versions have also been confirmed. Backers can get shovelling with a minimum pledge of $10.

FINALLY!!!! You guys sure took your time to show any kind of coverage to Shovel Knight, shame on you :P They had to announce collaboration with a legendary composer for you guys to pay attention? tsk tsk... Still, that is very exciting news for what already looks like an incredibly fun new IP that proudly wears it's retro influences on it's sleeve. This is the only game I've ever felt compelled to pledge in a kick-stater, and I can't wait for it to be released later this year. And hell, with enough extra support for the remainder of these last 9 days, the game might be able to fund extra characters and even a very cool sounding idea that is "Gender Swap" mode, so if anyone here is in any way interested in some bona fide retro 8-bit adventure, this might just do the trick, it did for me at least.

Also, you guys forgot to add that the game isn't just coming to PC, but has already been confirmed for 3DS and Wii U as well. Kinda worth nothing, I'd think.

"Gender Swap mode" That would be cool, i remember Penny Arcade's Rainslick Episode 3 had different swap modes including Gender Swap, it was pretty neat
