Shadow invades Sonic Generations in Dreamcast-centric new trailer

To crusty old gamers like us, Sonic Generations’ greatest asset is getting to play 2D, 16-bit inspired levels as Sonic’s pudgy old self. Still, we realize that a younger, fresher group of players grew up around 3D Sonic games, with Sonic Adventures setting the tone for all their future furry fun, and those people are probably much more excited about the modern Sonic stages. While we pity the gamers who feel that way, we throw you a bone by offering up this new trailer for Sonic Generations that focuses on the Dreamcast era of Sonic’s career.

Even if we’d rather play the redone Genesis levels, we’ll admit the mostly 2D versions of those stages from the Adventure games actually looked pretty good. Then Sega had to go and spoil it all by dropping in one of Sonic’s shitty friends at the very end, namely Shadow the Hedgehog. However, if this means we get to fight and/or beat the living crap out of the sulky, edgy wannabe, his appearance won’t be a total waste. Sonic Generations comes out November 1.

i dont mind shadow at all. but i dont think he should have been added to the game even as a boss battle... id like to see more of the REAL characters at least make an appearance in the game...(Sally, Rotor, Bunny...even Antoine.) i miss those old sonic cartoons :(

At the fist sign of Tails I'm bombing Sega, he ruins games.

I'll take it you missed the previous trailer then, which showed off modern AND classic tails.

I quite like shadow, he certainly has a more interesting personality than say knuckles, or tails. Hedgehog with attitude!

Shadow? Well, there goes my interest in the game. Shadow may be a good character (I like him), but it's not the fact that Shadow is being added, it's the fact that this, like in all recent Sonic games, is a sign of things to come. More crap will be added, new friends will be introduced, and the game will get a 3/10 from all the reviewers.

Shadow was announced pretty early on, actually, if you've looking at the leaked info. Besides, he's here only as a boss battle. Do you honestly think that's enough to kill the game?

    I am a few that are perfectly neutral in the Modern vs Classic wars. I like them both. However, all the nostalgia playing in the trailer made me want this *more* than ever, especially when I heard Speed Highway's music, and then the intro riff of SA2:B's movie... argh! XP;

Shadow will probably be a boss character, not a playable character, because no Genesis version of Shadow existed, and Adventure 2 was one of the best games on the dreamcast from what I've heard. If only I could finally get a pre-owned copy of SA2B...

Do you HAVE to play the modern Sonic levels? Cause I really don't want to relive the poop (when did we get filters?) that was Adventure 1 and 2.

For me his appearance in this trailer shows just how much SEGA don't get their fans. They think we love Shadow and will cheer when he appears in a trailer by surprise. Nope. It's them trying to sneak in appearances by all of Sonic's friends, so when we find out that Sonic Generations is packed with them - just like every other Sonic game we don't want - it will soften the anger. We'll see. 10-1 Silver, that stupid Princess, the Werehog or Chip's in the next trailer, mark my words. On the bright side though, I loved all the "Dreamcast-era" games (how exactly does Sonic Heroes count in that though?).

I do really like the Dreamcast Sonic games but yeah, I pretty much agree. SEGA tries way to hard to make their characters cool and edgy when all we want is good gameplay. This is why they'll always be the Dreamworks to Nintendo's Pixar.

because the dreamcast was the first of the PS2,GC,Xbox gen and shadow is just a boss you know, it was leaked quite a while ago

Sonic Generations was always meant to be a celebration of Sonic's ENTIRE history. We knew Sonic's friends would be there because whether you like it or not, they are a part of that history. Also, we knew about Shadow for quite some time thanks to the leak. No need to bet by the way, Silver has been confirmed to be a boss, so he'll probably be in the next trailer. As for the Werehog, well, all I'll say is, don't be so surprised. Sorry if I come across as harsh, but I'm just tired of all the comments across the internet I've seen complaining about 'Sega bringing the friends out of no where' as though this wasn't known or expected. Doesn't really help the stereotype of the Classic Sonic fan either. Yes, it's fine if you don't like a few or even all of them (I for one don't like Silver at all), but stop pretending like Sega just sneaked them on us now.

I grew up on classic Sonic, but I still enjoy some modern Sonic games too, so I don't mind this a bit. Shadow was pretty cool at first, and I may be the only person in the world who didn't totally hate Shadow the Hedgehog (the game) so this isn't a big deal.

I love that its referencing sonics 3 big 3D adventures. I like shadow, but if their letting Modern Sonic vs Shadow, Im praying to GOD that they make Classic Sonic Vs Classic Knuckles! Knuckles was Sonics ORIGINAL rival, I hope they bring it!

I've never really understood the hate directed at SA2. I always enjoyed it; that level where you shift the gravity around is CRAZY, and even the shooting stages with Tails/Eggman weren't super monotonous. I do wish the digging levels had been optional, though.

BAAWWWW! STUPID FRIENDS! Seriously dude, I got and beat Sonic 1 in the same year it came out. Stop being such a classicfag and deal with it, OP. I grew up on Sonic too and you don't see me whining about change.

I think someone wandered away from /v/ and got lost.
