Shadow of the Colossus HD, Hotline Miami free on PS Plus in October

PlayStation Plus' Instant Game Collection grows ever more expansive. While we wait for the service to encompass eldritch games from alternate dimensions, you can check out the five titles planned for October.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Poker Night at the Inventory 2, and the HD version of Shadow of the Colossus will join the collection on PlayStation 3, and Sine Mora will run free on Vita.

(Hotline Miami is too homicidal for one system, so it will be available gratis on both.)

The games will be added throughout October, so make sure you check back weekly to see which goodies you got. As always, any titles you activate will remain accessible as long as you're a PS Plus member, even if they're later removed from the collection.

Amalur is much better than it gets credit for. What a good month to be a PS+ subscriber!

Amalur is certainly worth $30, there's absolutely no reason not to play it for free. It's a lot like Fable, really, more than Elder Scrolls.

It is much closer in style to Dragon Age. Hell, the menu sound and look are the same in Amalur and DA2.

Meanwhile, in Europe....Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen and Farcry 3 as well as Stealth Inc (Because bastard is too grown up for PSN :|).

And now October looks like crap again :P Much rather that line up.
  • Sliet - September 28, 2013 6:14 a.m.

And Street Fighter X Tekken plus Touch My Katamari.

We do seem to get a better deal on PS+ in Europe but in terms of general pricing and availability of titles the American store is much better, the range of PS1 and PS2 titles in particular seem to suffer because of localisation issues so we just generally get shovel-ware crap. Hopefully there will be a more unified approach next-gen, but it is quite funny reading the comments on Sony's American blog saying your store is rubbish compared to Europe's, then looking at the European blog and seeing all the comments saying that our store is rubbish compared to America's. I guess the grass is always greener... ;)

I wish they'd give us the European Singstar songs. There's a ton of good stuff in Europe, like Depeche Mode and Erasure, that I'd think would sell well, and all we get in the States is the crappy Euro crap.
  • mafyooz - September 29, 2013 4:16 a.m.

Most of us in Europe would happily trade you ALL the songs to simply have the option to take the Singstar icon off the XMB

Lot better than September. The only game I cared for was just ICO.

So I officially don't need to buy games anymore.... I mean I will, and I'll feel terrible for making my backlog build, but at this point there's just so much stuff I really want to play... and now this o.o

Better than Septembers line up. Guess I will find out if SotC is as incredibly boring and underwhelming as Ico was.
  • garnsr - September 27, 2013 4:39 p.m.

I wanted to try the HD SotC, but I've afraid the controls are too last-gen and Japanese to want to play too long. Now I can try it and see. Thanks, PS+!
  • rainn'sgaydar - September 28, 2013 9:07 a.m.

It does feel a little last gen to control, but I enjoyed it and SotC HD was my first time playing the game, if that helps.

I liked it on PS2, but even some of the American games that have come out in HD collections have control schemes that you can't change to fit what I've gotten used to on PS3, and it seeems like SotC will be one of those. It's hard to get my mind to remember I have to turn the camera the opposite direction, or to press circle instead of X to accept, and that sort of thing. I didn't think Ico was as great as everyone thinks, I tried the beginning again in the HD version, but I really don't want to have to babysit a stupid girl again. It sure looks nice though.

I bought the collection when it came out in 2011, having never played either. I struggled with and eventually quit Ico, but SotC was fine for me. It did require some adjustments though
