Rumor: EA seeking former Infinity Ward heads

The word on the internet is that EA has placed "a million-dollar bounty for snapping up any IW studio lead"

Words: on April 8, 2010

Rumor has it that EA is willing to spend one million dollars to acquire a former Infinity Ward studio head. Activision canned Infinity Ward's leaders, Vince Zampella and Jason West, last month, citing "insubordination." Doesn't look like the duo will be unemployed for long, unless they're enjoying the leisure. In a recommendation posted on Zampella's LinkedIn page, a former Infinity Ward employee wrote:

"Rumor in the industry is that EA placed a million-dollar bounty for snapping up any IW studio lead, like Vince. Just the fact that the rumor is out there should speak volumes about how badly people want Vince working on their products."

The "million-dollar bounty" is pretty tenuous, but it wouldn't be surprising if EA were looking to snag either Zampella or West, and it would certainly be interesting if either of them went to EA. They formerly headed up the development of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, so... they helped build the Medal of Honor franchise, left to form Infinity Ward, overtook MoH with Call of Duty, and could now go back and potentially overtake Call of Duty with Medal of Honor. What a silly world.

In other news, the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package is coming to the PC and PS3 in North America on May 4th. Millions of people will buy it, and Activision will continue feasting on money. Meanwhile, we're cautiously optimistic about EALA and DICE's Medal of Honor reboot.

If they do go back to EA, will they call their new company Infinity +1 Ward? Possibly followed by "neener neener!"

I would love to see the IW heads, take their Modern Warfare profits and start their own studio, and have creative control of their products, so 2015, Infinity Ward, 3rd iteration of the studio doesn't have this happen to them again 7 years down the road.

I would love to see the guys work on MoH but it's more likely that they'll form their own studio. But then again, they did that last time and look what happened...

I'd love to see EA kick Activisions ass, especially after screwing up MW2

EA has become a great deve lately. Free DLC, new franchises, and all.

    Go to 'em, guys!

lol, mw2 dlc comes out may 4th with reach beta coming out on may 3rd, hmm i wonder if that by coincedence or planned out?
but these guys seem like smart developers and they should get good work done at ea, i would like to see them start a new company with the other devs that left iw over the last few days, that would be awesome

I'd sort of like to see them start a new studio, maybe partnered with EA...but more carefully, with more control over their products.

I would really like to see Vince and Jason come to EA and bring MoH back from the grave. It would serve Activision right.
