Resident Evil 4, Code Veronica remakes are $20 each

We recently reported the upcoming HD remakes of Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica X would appear in the US as both physical discs and as downloads for 360 and PS3. Today, we have a new batch of screens, two trailers and news that each remake will ring it at $20 a pop. Kinda steep for years-old games, but we are suckers for RE4.

Above: RE4 is out first on Sep 20, and includes all the extras found in the PS2 version

Above: Such intense music for such... plodding action. Not sure if this will age as well. This one's out Sep 27

Both games include full Achievement/Trophy support (as in, they contain as many as a full retail game, not a download title), but we're still not clear if the physical version will be a bundle (as they will be in Japan) or if they'll ship separately, or if the physical price will differ from the downloadable versions. I'll definitely pick up RE4, but $20 is a lot to ask for Code Veronica, which, based on that trailer, is not going to hold up well. Any Veronica fans out there willing to drop money on this? While you mull it over, eyeball these new screens:

    Twenty bucks is reasonable.
  • batmanboy11 - July 28, 2011 12:50 a.m.

I'll definitely buy $20 for RE4 (again), probably on the disc. As for Code Veronica... I've never played it, but I might buy it just 'cause.
  • Lemons - July 28, 2011 12:52 a.m.

Hmm. Will have to play the game to really see if the price is justified. That being said, I am a huge fan of RE4 and have never played Veronica so as far as 4 goes if its slightly better than the Wii version that had came out graphics wise I'm in, 20 bucks isn't too bad. Veronica too maybe, MAYBE....heh. I am hugely disappointed they didn't really add any content to it besides achievements on the 360 but am not too surprised about it. After all, Capcom right?
  • DevonOO7 - July 28, 2011 12:52 a.m.

I will gladly buy RE4 for a third time.
  • Clovin64 - July 28, 2011 12:55 a.m.

Ada in glorious HD? I'll have some of that!
  • JayQ - July 28, 2011 12:56 a.m.

I will happily buy the RE4 physical copy for $20.
  • locaos - July 28, 2011 12:59 a.m.

RE4 is amazing but i rather plug in my GameCube if i ever decide to play it again.

Yikes... I was actually kind of excited for the HD remake of Code Veronica, but the screens and video don't look much better than the Dreamcast version. I was hoping for something more along the lines of the upgrade from the Playstation RE1 to the Gamecube remaster of RE1. That was night and day... this 'new' Code Veronica nearly looks like a straight port here. Sad news.
  • Nano1124 - July 28, 2011 1:13 a.m.

Wow RE4 again... for the 4th time. I will gladly buy it for $20.
  • KielbasaNinja - July 28, 2011 1:18 a.m.

I know I'm gonna catch a lot of heat for this, but I actually have a strong nostalgic attachment to Code Veronica. Granted, I haven't played it since it first came out, but unless the remake completely disappoints, it will remain my second fave RE (behind RE4, of course). So, I will most certainly be dumping $20 into both titles. I'm thinking it might not be a bad idea to hold off on RE4 until after CV comes out, in case CV turns out to be absolute shit. Playing RE4 again can wash the taste of almost any bad game out of my mouth.
  • IAmJohnGalt - July 28, 2011 1:22 a.m.

Looks like ill be picking this up in a few weeks
  • rndmnss470 - July 28, 2011 2:09 a.m.

I regret to say that I haven't played RE4 yet but it looks like I finally will. Thanks for the heads up.
  • Redeater - July 28, 2011 2:47 a.m.

It always bothered me that I never finished Code Veronica on the Dreamcast.......after seeing the video I really don't have any desire to finish it. Every Resident Evil before 4 just seems to have aged like shit
  • somerandomchap - July 28, 2011 2:48 a.m.

    HD? It looks identical.
  • Xenos - July 28, 2011 3:10 a.m.

@aequitas13 my sentiments exactly. It's one thing to re-release as game and add something to it, but it's just a piss poor blatant attempt at pocket gouging now. I already played and bought both of these games twice (dreamcast, GC, PS2 versions) and even then the only thing they included with the ps2 version of CV was an extra cut scene and with RE4 a new gun. And now you mean to tell me a screeen filter, slightly higher res, and a smidge of next gen lighting is all I get? Extra zombies on screen? Any new weapons? Co-op? Move and shoot? New texture mapping? No? Pass.....capcom has become something else with these so called "add-ons" and "remakes"and charging these nearly full fledged prices. Disapproving Xenos is disapproving.....
  • Yeager1122 - July 28, 2011 3:31 a.m.

I would defintley buy a Resident Evil 4 remake for $20.
  • peachguy - July 28, 2011 4:02 a.m.

"[with RE4.HD] There really will be no need for Resident Evil 5 to exist any more. At all." - David Houghton FURTHER PROOF <3 <3 <3
  • ObliqueZombie - July 28, 2011 5:45 a.m.

For Code Veronica? Probably not. Not until it's price goes down, and my free-time isn't taken up by dozens of games. But Resident Evil 4? HELL. FUCKIN'. YES.
  • Spybreak8 - July 28, 2011 7:43 a.m.

Sadly my first foray with RE4 was a friend's gamecube and then for me on my PC. Man the PC port is horrible so I'm willing to shell out 20 bones for such a classic if the controls, video and such are good.
  • grayguwapo - July 28, 2011 8:31 a.m.

RE4 is definitely worth 20 bucks... and if it's an HD remake of at least 720p then it's all the more worth it... sad to say for code veronica that it seems to be like a straight port, no way is it worth 20 bucks... I wouldn't mind picking this up for 25 bucks for the physical version as long as it's bundled together...
