Republique Kickstarter reaches final hours

Can the unique title make it to fruition?

Republique gripped the imaginations of many in the video game industry when it was announced via the crowdsourced funding site, Kickstarter about a month ago. The iPhone/iPad/PC game tasks you as a sort of remote hacker who helps a young woman escape an oppressive government.

The player never steps foot in the game world, instead you observe the world through security cameras and other devices and help the young woman by giving her instructions. It's been described as a sort of stealth game with elements of survival horror and a cyberpunk theme.

So far the game has raised a huge sum of money, about $324,000 as of this writing. However, they've got a long way to go to reach their Kickstarter goal of $500,000 in just 50 hours. It's not out of the question though.

There have been several last-minute drives that have raised that kind of money, so if you're inclined, take a jaunt on over to the website and drop a few bucks on what looks like a very unique game with talented developers from the Halo and Metal Gear Solid teams.

The game sounds interesting. I heard the dev talking about it , he really wants to bring proper games [non ports] to phones so good luck to him. If they have two thirds of the money why not just make the game and sell it half finished, that seems to be the trend these days.

I just read the description on Kickstarter... "featuring a believable, non-sexualized female lead" Young. Flawless skin. Voluptuous lips. Fabulous face. Wadda ya know, exactly like every woman I meet on the street every single day.

On that website, the devs say "before we enter into any financial agreements, we want to prove through Kickstarter that there is a market for a serious AAA mobile game.". I have to be honest... I don't think there is, and, given their struggles to get their dough (a ridiculous amount to ask for), hardly anyone does. Contrary to most of the internet, I don't actually want to see things fail, but I fear this would serve as an example of "what not to do".
