Pokemon Wi-Fi download event announced for HeartGold and SoulSilver: MEW!

Pokemon fans, are you sitting down? Because this is probably the coolest Pokemon giveaway this generation. In honor of Pokemon Gold and Silver's 10th anniversary, Mew will be distributed via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver from October 15th - 30th.

Mew is already one of the coolest and rarest Pokemon of all time, and this Mew is particularly exciting because it's a blank canvas to train however you would like. Not only is it a mere kitten at level 5, but it only has a single move in its moveset, Pound, which is a Normal-type attack. One of the best things about Mew is its versatility and vast movepool - it can learn any TM or HM. Imagine the possibilities! To top it all off, this Mew also comes in a Cherish Ball and proudly wears a Premier Ribbon, just so that everyone knows how extra-special it is.

So, if you were stuffing Pokemon like crazy into your Ranch to get that Mew from Hayley in My Pokemon Ranch, you can give it a break for awhile and just download Mew starting this Friday using the Mystery Gift option on either HeartGold or SoulSilver and selecting Wi-Fi download. How do you plan to train your Mew?

Mew = the best legendary ever in my humble opinion

Awesome! The pink marshmallow is finally mine! xD but I was still kinda disappointed. I WANT TO CATCH HIM MYSELF!! not let some lame guy in green clothes give him to me! >.<

@Jonners117 - woowwww! I'm jealous of your Abras! I keep telling myself someday I'll get all the non-neutral natures on Pokemon that have Synchronize, and also catch a Ditto of every non-neutral nature. Someday... a good weekend project, perhaps. @Personamanxx - no, you can't use your Wii to download it - you can only download it through HG/SS on DS. If your router is set to WEP you should be able to do it from home, otherwise you have to find somewhere that has a WEP Wi-Fi network.

    just got it :D :D :D :D :D
  • secretsearcher - October 15, 2010 3:45 a.m.

I want a Mew!! now i just have to make my wi-fi connection work by tomorrow...
  • Personamanxx - October 14, 2010 10:13 p.m.

@Carolyn: No, I mean can I use the wii to get it on my DS I am well aware that I can't magically get it on my Wii without a DS. Can I use my Internet connected Wii to use the Wi-fi (Or whatever crap... I'm terribly dumb when it comes to tech terminology) to use this Mystery Gift function on my Copy of SoulSilver on my DS to get this Mew? Can I use the Wii to get it on my DS? Or do I have to go to a game shop to get it? Whatever I'll probably just dick arounf tomorrow and find out myself. But if I have to go to a Game shop then I'm out of luck.

Available in Canada?!... Carolyn, you made my day :)
  • GamesRadarCarolynGudmundson - October 14, 2010 5:10 p.m.

@Personamanxx - You can only download it through copies of HeartGold or SoulSilver on DS. When you start the game, in that blue start menu you should see a "Mystery Gift" option under the "Connect to PokeWalker" option. There's no way to get it on Wii =/
  • GamesRadarCarolynGudmundson - October 14, 2010 5:08 p.m.

@Jonners117 - Agreed. I don't have the patience to soft reset for in-game Legendaries, so lately I always at least soft reset the event giveaways because it's a lot easier to do. It's still tedious though! Someday I need to get my team of Ralts with Synchronize with one of each nature I might want...

So can I get this through my internet connected Wii in Canada? Yeah, it might be a stupid question but I'm legitimately unsure how this Mystery Gift function works.
  • 510BrotherPanda - October 13, 2010 8:38 p.m.

I still have my Toys'R'Us Mew on my Blue version! Hooray, I don't have to go far to get it this time!

@Moondoggie1157 - This event is totally available in Canada too! I believe it's open to all North American and PAL games. @nomnom52 - yes! The PokeFever is contagious, and you can't outgrow it. @Jonners117 - With the other Wi-Fi giveaways (except for the Shiny Pokemon from the tournament, those always have fixed natures), I usually save my game after receiving the Mystery Gift right before I talk to the delivery man, and then keep soft resetting after talking to the delivery man until I get the nature I want.
  • Quifftopher - October 13, 2010 4:45 p.m.

hah! i bought an action replay and just catch batches of 30 mews then trade em off for everyones hard earned monsters. SUCKERSSSS!!!!!!!
  • NanoElite666 - October 13, 2010 6:42 a.m.

DAMMIT!! That's what I get for not having a copy of Heart Gold yet... Will I ever be able to get one of these things legitimately in one of my games? *sigh*
  • nomnom52 - October 13, 2010 5:08 a.m.

Carolyn, you are my bestest PokePal. My friend used to be interested in it, but he claims to have "Outgrown Pokemon". I have followed your advice from a previous Pokemon Monday and now constantly bug and ridicule him for disliking Pokemon. I know he'll cave someday!
  • Moondoggie1157 - October 13, 2010 4:27 a.m.

Being in Canada I won't be able to take part in this event, BUT if someone out there would be willing to perhaps get more than one Mew I would be happy to trade for it... Please let me know.
  • SkyDragonc5 - October 13, 2010 3:56 a.m.

Awesome, another mew to go with mine from the giveaway for the GBA games.
