Huh, looks pretty cool. Also, as someone mentioned below, I MAY have taken issue with the fact that is now uses 3D polygons instead of sprite art- except that honestly, the graphical style looks like the obvious natural evolution from the art style presented in the B&W games. And unlike the 3D console games, the pokemon here look just like their original design, in all their cartoony glory. So no, even as someone who's a big 2D sprite advocate in general, this change actually doesn't bother me, in fact, it looks really damn cool. Also, oh game freak, making starter choices painfully obvious yet again. Of course fennekin will be my starter!

I completely agree with your post. I also took issue with the use of 3D polygons instead of sprites but after seeing the video I really like the new style My only worry is that the battles might have longer animations which might get boring and end up into a mash A fest to get on with the battle

I wouldn't worry too much. Pokemon games so far always have had the option to turn off battle animations. I don't see them NOT giving you that option this time around.

    Thanks that's good to here

Well that's just great, as soon as I think I'm gonna be able to catch all 649 Pokemon, they dump another batch on me. Bring it on Gamefreak! Hmm... Now all I need is a 3DS...

THE GAME STILL USES SPRITES PEOPLE

This is awesome news! I've been waiting for a 3D Pokemon world for ages!

I swear to f*cking god Gamefreak if that Firefox(hah) turns out to be part fighting..... It's interesting new artstyle, 3D model that is (OH BOY HERE WE GO), however it looks more animated than the 3D model stadium games so I'll give it that, but most importantly, it's not overhead anymore but rather a back/side view. This will no doubt be interesting I like what they did with the legendaries, it looks like it's based by X and Y chromosomes, the Pokemon themselves looking like it, with this logic, I'm coming to the conclusion the third of the legendaries will BS a Z shape and considering what animal then can use as that shape, most likely a snake, which could BS interesting if it turns out to be the very first Poison Legendary.

I was thinking the same thing about the fire starter, 3/5 of the fire starters being Fighting hybrids is a bit too much.

Wow. Of all the things they could have announced this morning, this may have been the most unexpected for me. Looks really interesting though. I wonder how many (or few) new Pokemon will be in this gen. I tend to think around 100 at most, kind of like Gold and Silver did. Either way, this looks like a big step forward for the series.

I couldn't believe this was actually happening whilst I watched the broadcast. I always thought that a decently put together 3D Pokémon game would be impossible due to all the variables and whatnot and that we'd have to forever put up with stiff console battle arena games. I've played every generation since the originals and it's like a dream come true. I just hope the story has even more substance this time and that they don't hold back on content (or Pokémon). My only concern with this footage is that there's no clear indication of whether the game's overworld is still tile/grid based; in a 3D game I think I'd like movement in at least 8 directions, maybe give the bicycle an actual turning circle etc etc but that's being kind of nitpicky.

I have the feeling the new 3D graphics are going to rub the Pokemon purists the wrong way. I'll reserve judgement until I've played it for myself. Pokemon hasn't let me down yet, so I'll stay optimistic about it. Also, did I see the Pokemon version of Paris in the trailer?
  • Cyberninja - January 8, 2013 4:01 a.m.

that could have been the tokyo tower if they are keeping the region based on Japan.
  • Tronto13 - January 8, 2013 4:47 a.m.

No, it's definitely Paris as Tokyo tower is orange/red and isn't in a green area. Also when it pans out France is the source of Pikachu's thunderbolt.
