Don't think for a second the Pokemon craze is past its heyday. In just one day the newest entries in the long-running RPG series surpassed sales of more than one million units.
According to Nintendo's press release this morning, in their first 24 hours on sale in the US, roughly 1.08 million copies of Pokemon Black and Pokemon White were sold, making it the best launch day in Pokemon history.
The previous record holder was the release of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl in 2007, which saw launch day sales of 780,000 units.
"These sales numbers illustrate the continued strength of the Nintendo DS family of systems. Already established as the nation's best-selling video game platform of all time, the installed base of more than 47 million makes it the ideal hand-held for developers to reach a huge gaming-focused target audience," said Nintendo of America's corporate communications director Charlie Scibetta.
Pokemon Black and White mark the fifth generation of the Pokemon RPG series, bringing the total number of collectible monsters to 649. We've posted a handy Pokedex for each and every one.
