footage of Sega’s Phantasy Star Online 2 has surfaced. The following recording
was broadcast off-stage by Sega at this year’s Tokyo Game Show and presents a
ruined, grayed-out cityscape overrun by apocalyptic-looking beasties along with
some attack animations for various classes.
Phantasy Star Online 2 is
currently slated to release before the end of the year – but only on the PC,
and only in Japan. Participants in the closed alpha had to win a lottery before
they could even start ticking off bugs in the game's extensive
character-creation mode. Still, bearing in mind that the original PSO saw no
end of relaunches – including a GameCube port that basically saw an Online
Adapter created just to facilitate the “O” part of “PSO” – it's a pretty good
bet that the game will see a localized release sooner or later.
