Panzer Dragoon Drei? Crimson Dragon IS a Panzer game in all but name if this trailer's anything to go by

If only it wasn't a Kinect game

We've known for a long time that Crimson Dragon is being developed for XBLA as a spiritual sequel to the Panzer Dragoon series of games. Legendary dev studio Team Andromeda itself may long ago have been absorbed into Sonic Team, but that hasn't stopped this dragon from rising like a... dragon. A magnificent new trailer has been released demonstrating the gameplay, along with several things that make us incredibly excited. Have a watch, then we'll gush about it for a bit.

First off, there's this screen:

Above: There's a reason they're making a big deal of these guys

Those four people right there were all involved with the creation of the original Panzer Dragoon games, which means you're looking at a massive chunk of Team Andromeda's creative talent. The big one is Yukio Futastugi - former leader of Team Andromeda and creator of the Panzer Dragoon franchise, who is heading the new project.

Manabu Kusunoki, former artist at Team Andromeda worked on Panzer Dragoon, Zwei and Saga. Tomohiro Kondo worked as a designer on Panzer 1 and Zwei. And Saori Kobayashi was music composer on Panzer Saga (as well as creating sound effects for NiGHTS into Dreams). What a team.

And you can hear it, too. That music could well have come straight out of an existing Panzer Dragoon game. And just look at the gameplay - regular tracer shot and lock-on lasers? It freakin' IS Panzer Dragoon!

Above: Bony skeleton thing and lock-on fire, anyone? Thought so!

But then, just as our excitement hits fever pitch, something comes up on the screen that makes us remember why we haven't been that excited about the game so far:

Above: It's for Kinect. ONLY

At least the similar gameplay of Child of Eden was playable on Kinect. Right?

Guys?

Ditto to the f***ing. Child of Eden is great on my controller; why shoot themselves in the foot from prohibiting a certain audience? Maybe they'll have to patch it later...

I don't expect it to be good since it is kinect game. They should remake Panzer Dragoon Saga. One of the Best Jrpgs ever created

Figures. They make a spiritual successor to a game that people love, and then only make it playable with a device that those same people hate. The decision to make this Kinect-only has to be the dumbest decision they could have possibly made when planning this game, and somehow no one brought it up...so, good luck hitting your target audience, guys.

I have a Kinect, but would much rather have the option to play with a controller. Why not give people a choice?

If only it wasn't a Kinect game indeed. Seriously, I loved Panzer Dragoon Orta on the Xbox, and I would be interested in this... but yeah, fuck Kinect.
