Outernauts launched by Insomniac on Facebook

Insomniac Games, developer of the highly-lauded Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, and Spyro the Dragon series' has announced the launch of their latest effort, Outernauts, a Facebook title that sounds an awful lot like a rad version of outer space Pokemon.

The description on Insomniac's webpage describes it as a game in which you can "capture, train, and evolve exotic beasts" as well as "master a wild, untamed universe of over 30 planets and arenas." All of which sounds quite a bit like an amazing version of extra-sci-fi Pokemon. We're not in the habit of trying out too many Facebook games, but given Insomniac's incredible pedigree, and the idea of space pokemans...we're going to have to give this one a spin.

As a Closed Beta tester, I'll say that it's incredibly fun. The problem is that it launched with a lot of slowdown problems, etc. Since it's a franchise, it'll be interesting to see how the facebook game evolves into the handheld gaming market.

I just played it and... it's alright but somehow facebook games feel so clunky and I just can't be bothered playing it. There are so many times where it asks you invite your friends or something like that and it just gets monotonous in my opinion. Good try Insomniac but no thanks.

Pokemon meets Bastion, could be interesting.

That sounds super neat and all but... IT'S ALMOST 2013, WHEN THE HELL ARE WE GOING TO GET SOME NEWS ON OVERSTRIKE

That's technically part of a different studio at IG. They have two studios and three divisions: Burbank, NC, and Click. Click is working on Outernauts, Burbank on OverStrike, and NC on R&C. Burbank has claimed before that they didn't want to show off a demo that wasn't done fully, so they shied away from E3. I've heard rumors of PAX or Gamescom having something about it, and I can't wait.
