No Borderlands 2 on Wii U for lack of "OMG" port ideas

Borderlands 2 isn't showing up on the Wii U because Gearbox couldn't think of any features which compelled them to take advantage of its special capabilities. Or, in the words of CEO Randy Pitchford, no port ideas made them say "OMG."

“We get asked if there is going to be a Wii U version of Borderlands, and the reason why there’s not is because we couldn’t think of a natural, obvious, ‘OMG, I want that for what the Wii U brings to the table’ feature,” Pitchford told GamesMaster magazine (via Nintendo Everything).

Borderlands 2 executive producer told Brian Martel (via Eurogamer) in July that the company was taking a wait-and-see approach with the console, and it would probably do inventory management with the second screen, if anything. However, he said Gearbox is excited to release Aliens: Colonial Marines on Wii U next year, a sentiment Pitchford shared.

“But with Aliens, the first thing we thought was ‘Holy sh*t, I can have a motion controller [we assume he means tracker] in my hands!’ When it’s there in my lap it feels like I’m part of the movie.”

Being honest with the press about why you do what you do. +1 of the things that Gearbox are doing right. On the other hand, it'd be nice to have the option to play the game on another console, even if it's a direct port with nothing OMGworthy. Guess it's just not worth it business-wise, oh well.

Why does every developer insist upon adding some sort of stupid gimmick to wii/wii-U ports? Haven't they broken and destroyed enough otherwise fine ports with stupid wii-specific nonsense? Isn't the idea of releasing a good game to as many people as possible a good idea anymore? The challenge is there, but if the game is just as good on all systems it's released for, there's the prospect of more profit. Why leave a perfectly capable system and a load of prospective buyers and fans in the dust just because you can't come up with some half-assed unnecessary minigames or something stupid like that? It seems utterly counter-productive.

Wow really? You are not being serious right? The whole point of owning anything Nintendo is because of a gimmick. Why would Gearbox spend a cent making a port to Nintendo's new system if they were not going to use the 'gimmick' that Nintendo keeps shoving down children, nieve parents and old people's throats. It is very PRODUCTIVE to save time and money on gambling with Nintendo like many devs learned the hard way with the Wii. Other than the shovelware market. You should be happy that it was not just some port. People have that stupid screen in their hands so they want to be able to use it for something other than looking up there nose every time they look down.

Mini-Map/HUD/Menus aren't good enough? Why not just port the game with those features moved to the Gamepad screen? The game is good enough to sell WiiU copies of on its own merits. It doesn't need gimmicks.
