New 'Wipeout' game coming exclusively to Kinect

A new motion-controlled version of the shamefully entertaining Wipeout game show is on the way to Xbox 360. Activision is calling the show "a perfect fit for a Kinect game." Wipeout in the Zone will be released in conjunction with the TV show's summer season premiere.

"The ABC hit show Wipeout continues to thrill a growing fan base of viewers with hilarious new obstacles. Everyone who watches the show wishes they could try the obstacle course – and now this is their chance," said Activision's David Oxford in a statement.

The game will feature the same kind of stunts as seen on TV, including the infamous "Big Balls" as well as numerous obstacles involving fast-thinking reflex-tests.

John Anderson and John Henson will bring their back-and-forth comedy to the game, which can either be a good or bad thing depending on how you feel about the smarmy co-hosts. Jill Wagner, the show's 'field correspondent,' also lends her voice to the game.

This is good for some quick casual cash, for sure, but are any of you Kinect owners interested in a more physical edition of Wipeout? The Wii edition's been out for a while but can only mimic the show so well...

I'm not going to lie but I'm excited about this.

@ bmrskate: Man you are some kind of tool. Crash Course is one of my favorite XBLA games and its free. It is exactly like Wipeout in every way so this game has a chance of being fun. I do wish however, they would make this an expanded version of a Crash Course type game and keep it off Kinect.

I'm a HUGE WipEout fan. Like... I bought the original on PS1 and every version since. It's the best PSN game that's been released so far. But how in the *&# are you guys not aware of Wipeout the piece of junk tv series that has people jumping from ball to ball and wall to soup type competitions? Why on earth would a person falling between two big balls make you 'think' that that would have ANYTHING at ALL to do with a 10 year old racing franchise that has a niche' following (at best) in 2011??? Seriously.

My sister has the Wii version, It's pretty awful.

Oh, Wipeout... I assumed that this was talking about WipEout, which doesn't make any sense, because how would that even work? See, Suicidali isn't alone.

I actually find the show Wipeout very entertaining, but i don´t it would be a good idea for a game.

bmrskate: Thanks for being a pompous ass, but what I WAS trying to say was that Wipeout is the unfunny imitation of MXC. Glad you enjoyed ripping me a new one about what was the small point of my entire post- hope it made your day dwelling on that. I wish I had been more clear on that point, but it was hardly what I was talking about when I made that comment.

@Kethmach: I think what you meant to say was that Wipeout is a shameless and mediocre ripoff of Takeshi's Castle (MXC). The whole point of Takeshi's Castle was to essentially make live action homages and parodies of classic video games, TV shows, and movies while making it a huge physical challenge and raucously entertaining to the people watching at home. Thumbs up to you for trying to be contrary for the sake of being contrary and displaying your hypocritical ignorance for every GR reader to see. I will take Takeshi's Castle over Wipeout any day of the week. The people that "created" Wipeout COMPLETELY missed the point. So, obviously I couldn't give a shit about the video game. Or, the utterly superfluous, glitchy, and pointless Kinect. How do you honestly expect to be taken seriously?...Wow. I hope you were kidding.

MXC (Takeshi's Castle) is all that Wipeout is.. minus the funny. But!... after playing the Dorito's Crash Course that came out this winter, I could totally see this being a really fun Kinect game. Sorry haters- you all are going to hate no matter what, so... you have your fun (bitching about things that don't affect you on the internet), we'll have ours (playing a game). I was wishing Crash Course was a Kinect game so this will be an easy buy idea.

Anyone who says Wipeout is a ridiculously boring show has obviously never seen Wipeout. Anyways, my parents bought the game for the Wii and even though it's technically terrible, it's still a lot of fun. This should be a lot better. Kind of looking forward to it (if only just to get some dust off my Kinect).

Takeshi's Castle > than this shit.
  • Daruniah - March 16, 2011 11:24 p.m.

Why would anyone actually make a game out of the show? Again, why make a game from a ridiculously boring show?
  • suicidali - March 16, 2011 11 p.m.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that saw "Wipeout" and thought it was an announcement for a futuristic racing game... Man, the things people will make into videogames these days, eh?
  • chiz - March 16, 2011 10:56 p.m.

if I had an Xbox and a kinect I would defiantly buy this game
