has released a new trailer in which Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Jim Broadbent show off their respective ranges through playing a number of different, but crucially interlinked characters.
The film is an adaptation of the bestselling novel by author David Mitchell, which tells a series of seemingly disparate stories in a variety of literary styles, before gradually revealing them to be interconnected as part of one grand narrative.
It's quite a challenge for co-directors Lana and Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer, although the decision to cast several different roles per actor seems a good way of visually demonstrating the links between the various stories.

It's tricky for a two-minute trailer to attempt to sum up such a convoluted narrative, and it seems as though the marketing team have settled upon playing up the "everything is connected" angle. That point is actually laboured somewhat here, although hopefully it will be less heavily handled in the finished article.
Featuring appearances from the likes of Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess and Ben Whishaw, Cloud Atlas will open in the UK on 22 March 2013. If nothing else, it will certainly be ambitious...
