New Battlefield 3 video teases 'full trailer,' kills us with anticipation

Today's new Battlefield 3 trailer, dubbed 'My Life,' largely contains footage from the previous three 'Fault Line' trailers. At the end of the video, however, we're treated to several glimpses of "oh shit" meant to promote the full trailer. Want to see the full trailer? Well, you can't just yet. We reported yesterday that the 12-minute promotional epic will be released after it receives one million 'likes' on its Facebook page.

There may not be much in this video that we haven't seen, but it should at least convince a few more to buy into the promotional stunt and just get to liking. Here stills of the final few flashes:

@GrandTheftAuto I am not sure if I read about those things on this site or on G4s site though I could be wrong. I also have no clue if those will be added to the multiplayer as well since we have only seen them in use in the singleplayer trailers but I also remember hearing that this will also make it to where you have to be positioned at certain parts of a vehicle in order to get into a particular seat. For instance, if you wanted to drive a humv you would have to go to the driver side door and enter from there, for passenger seat you enter through the appropriate door, and to get on the turret you get on from the back. Kind of like how the project reality mod for battlefield 2 works. Actually they seem to be borrowing a few ideas from the realism mods that people have made for bf 2 which is pretty cool.

To tell you the truth I just don't believe that last pic is gameplay footage but iI'm hoping to God that it is.

Actually, just checked the facebook page and the full 12 min trailer was up, they need 1 million now for the producer's commentary.

^^ I think it's genius. At least they tell us when the trailer will be out, rather than casually saying "oh btw, you can watch the full tralier now" BF 2 was awesome, I hope you can drive like, a huge aircraft carrier in this one.

I hate this whole 'like on facebook' method. We have to like a game on facebook so they can advertise it to us? Bastards.
  • GrandTheftAuto - April 16, 2011 7:44 a.m.

@reveffect Where have you read that they will have animations for entering vehicles that sounds interesting :O And that you will get knocked of you'r feet near an explosion? Are both of those things going to be in the multiplayer to?
  • Fiirestorm21 - April 16, 2011 3:37 a.m.

Quick everyone! 3/4 of the way there!
  • Gameguy94 - April 16, 2011 1:35 a.m.

DICE owes me a new pair of pants. -.-

Let me give it a try. Most of what I say is probably what others have already said. Don't read too much into the trailers for all they show are clips from the single player campaign and while the campaign is starting to look better than what I have seen from other modern shooters it is not the major selling point of the game. If you have played any of the battlefields that came out on the pc or watched a video on youtube(especially battlefield 2, not bad company 2 because sometimes when people say bf 2 other people who haven't play bf2 think they are talking about bc2) you would know that they are very different in a lot of ways compared to the console versions and bc 2. The battlefield series has always been about the multiplayer and making you feel like you are in a real battlefield unlike in cod where the multiplayer is nothing but a frag fest. The multiplayer is centered around teamwork between multiple squads (usually squads of 6 in bf 2) and a commander (which was a position exclusive to bf 2 and 2142 so far)who leads the entire team and provides artillery support, ammo/health/repair crates, vehicle drops, and uav scans. The main multiplayer game mode is conquest which has both teams trying to capture different outposts scattered around the map to drop the other teams points to zero to win the game. I guess they might add in the rush game mode from bc 2 and maybe another new mode in bf 3. Unlike in bc 2 where you were limited to helicopters because of the relatively small maps, (they were big but not bigger than the ones on the pc bf games), you will have access to jets as well which can be used for precision airstrikes, carpet bombing, and dogfighting other jets. There will be a class system but I am not sure if they are going to go back to what it was like in bf 2 or keep it like bc 2 or go for something different. The classes are soldier, spec ops, sniper, anti tank, medic, engineer, and support (from bf 2). Other than improved classes. They will be adding in animations for when you board vehicles instead of instantly "teleporting" inside when you enter one. When explosions go off near you you will be knocked off your feet and actually be able to look down and see you body like in mirrors edge. Explosive destruction of environments will be improved and (i dont know if this is correct) will make environment damage more realistic (high caliber rounds can take out chunks of concrete, grenade launchers won't be able to blow a huge hole in stone buildings anymore, craters will be left on the ground where explosions are, etc.). I am sure anyone else will fill in anything I have forgotten to mention or correct me if i am wrong about anything, but I cant keep thinking of what else to add since there is so much content in the bf series. So these are some of the things you can expect from bf 3 since this is the true sequel in the bf series to bf 2. If there is anything in particular you wanna know just ask and me or someone else will answer. Maybe I will see you on the battlefield.

@Desann You're seeing the glass as half empty instead of full my friend =)
  • Desann - April 15, 2011 9:41 p.m.

"Epic name, love that game, hate your post" Sorry, I don't mean to seem hateful. I don't hate the game. If only I could convey my tone of voice though a post like this. I really did just want to know what it is that I missed about the game so I could understand the excitement and join in. Please don't read what I said with an angry voice; I'm calm, collected and interested in a good discussion, that's all.

I'm getting a bit tired of all of the "I don't get it..." comments. I understand where they're coming from, but that's only because we're getting single player videos. The Battlefield campaigns are fun and all, but unlike CoD (imo) they aren't the best part. The fun comes from all-out-war of 64 people fighting with guns, tanks, helicopters, and jet, and completely leveling a town in the process. It's a huge multiplayer experience, and if you don't associate that with the name "Battlefield," you're missing a major part of first person shooters.

I'm impressed with the likes this is getting. It's managed to pick up about 100,000 of them in 24 hours (and I was one of them!)

@Desann, Epic name, love that game, hate your post

@Desann There is a small example of some of the destruction in this article, a few images down:
  • Desann - April 15, 2011 7:54 p.m.

"multiply that by 100 for how much more destruction will be in Battlefield 3." Is there a trailer or something showing this? I know one of the franchise's hooks has been the dynamic destruction, but the destruction in the trailer above is clearly a scripted sequence, and I haven't even seen it stated or shown yet that Battlefield 3 even has dynamic destructibility at all. Heck, going on nothing more than what I've seen from Battlefield 3, I don't even know if it has a multiplayer mode. I can't get hyped for the game based soley on "Battlefield times a hundred". I want to know what it is that has been said specifically for the new game that is so cool. It's got potential to be a hundred times cooler than the last game of course, I just want them to claim that it will be, and tell me how it will be.

    F' Yeah!

@Desann Battlefield 2 was one of the best shooters of it's time. What made it different from CoD were huge maps, 64 players in a game, jets, tanks, helicopters, squads, etc. It was kind of the staple of PC shooters. They've been teasing a sequel for years, but all we've gotten so far are console games (Bad Company) which very much felt like ports when played on the PC. (The first wasn't even on PC, only the second) People are excited for 32v32 games, with completely destructible environments and vehicles. If you haven't played Bad Company 2, go try a demo or something to see what the destruction does to the gameplay, then multiply that by 100 for how much more destruction will be in Battlefield 3. It completely changes the gameplay and tactics. I for one, on top of all that, am excited for something to shake up Call of Duty's already crumbling reign.
  • BadLadJon - April 15, 2011 7:33 p.m.

im gonna be honest, after playing battlefield 2 i was disappointed by the bad companies, the guns felt too large and clunky and oversized, i cannot wait for battlefield 3 :D
