Here's a look at Mass Effect: Infiltrator (via Shack News), the upcoming iOS app that EA intends to offer as a sideshow to the main event of Mass Effect 3's launch. Put together by Dead Space Mobile developers Iron Monkey Studios, the title's an unashamed arcade twist on Mass Effect's celebrated formula. Built around slomo kill-cams and combo takedowns, the game isn't aiming for a mobile Mass Effect so much as a mobile face-shooting sim with Mass Effect bits in it.

Not that Infiltrator is devoid of ties to Bioware's trilogy: the game's storyline builds upon the universe of the console titles, and progress made within Infiltrator contributes to your Galactic Readiness rating within Mass Effect 3. The game's headed for iOS around the time of Mass Effect 3's March 6 launch, with an Android port to follow close after.

Wouldn't it make more sense to make a mobile game based on the exploration and conversation mechanics of Mass Effect, rather than the shooter mechanics that won't translate well to touch screens?

Did you play Dead Space? The controls were actually quite well done. How this game handles, I don't care. I'm buying it anyways, because I'm a huge fan of the franchise.
