Kojima says he's interested in making a Metal Gear Rising sequel

The legendary figurehead of game developer/publisher Konami gave his much-anticipated address to the throngs of attendees at the Penny Arcade Expo today, and aside from melting everybody's faces off with the awesomeness of the Ground Zeroes reel, he also made some interesting comments about his future in the series.

Kojima said that he's actually not a fan of spin-offs (ala Metal Gear Rising,) but that he likes what Platinum Games is doing with the title.

"First of all, I'm not a huge fan of spin-offs," Kojima said. "But as far as Rising is concerned, if it works out well, I'd really like to work with Platinum again to make a sequel."

Quite frankly, as huge fans of both Metal Gear Solid, and the awesome-looking Revengeance, the prospect of a full-fledged sequel is incredibly exciting. Metal Gear Rising has been reportedly held back by development issues for a long time before Platinum took over. So the prospect of a game developed from the ground up by Platinum and helmed by Kojima is enticing indeed.

In slightly related news, Kojima also said that he'd love to make a new main game in the Metal Gear Solid series starring The Boss, a fan-favorite character from Metal Gear Solid 3. Which undoubtedly sent MGS fanboys into a tizzy.

I would totally play a game with The Boss as the main character. Make it happen, Kojima!

Well, it'd be nice if we could play MG: Revengeance first before talking about the sequel, but considering I'm already sure I'm gonna have a blast with it, this is indeed very exciting news ^^ Now it all depends on people actually giving a platinum-made game a chance for once, so this can happen.

A game with The Boss as the main character MIGHT be fun, but what seems more plausible to me would be a game that lets you pay as ALL of the COBRA unit- maybe at different points, or maybe you choose one to use for the whole campaign- that takes you through their lives, from joining up, through the World Wars they were a part of, letting you see The Joy and The Sorrow's relationship, and then watching The Joy become The Boss and training Naked Snake? Anyway, a sequel to MGR would be pretty cool, as long as the first one goes alright. I much prefer to see the series move ahead, instead of Kojima just carrying on spewing out prequels. It'd be nice if the events of MGS5, if it does get made, intersect with those of Revengeance in some way- maybe even if we keep getting them alternating one after the other, like Black Ops and Modern Warfare have been doing?

Screw the fanboys, Rising is going to be awesome. Yes the other Metal Gear's were awesome but stealth gameplay is kind of slow. This cut anything idea is freaking awesome. And the fact that we'll get both over the top action as well as stealthy gameplay is nice, now other people can get into the genre/series.

Not a MGR fan but we'll just have to wait and see. I'd rather Kojima focused on a new I.P. if I'm honest, or diverged from MGS as the plot just seems to get more thick and convoluted with every game - I never can keep up with the plot without reading internet forums/dicussions after the main game; that's an incomprehendible story, not any lacking on my part. I'd like to see him do Silent Hill, if I'm honest, it seems a perfect fit!
