If video games invaded famous paintings

Who'd want the Mona Lisa, when we can have the Mona Lara?

Are video games art? Well, one could argu... screw that. We're not even going to attempt to enter that minefield. Clearly, though, with a bunch of concept drawings from the likes of Dante's Inferno and Jet Set Radio being framed and displayed in a swanky San Francisco hotel this week, some people think they are.

And that got us thinking. What if some of the greatest works of art ever had video game characters crow-barred into them? The answer: they'd become 92.1% more awesome. Obviously. So here, for your artistic perusal, we present our twisted takes on the Mona Lisa, Starry Night, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte and American Gothic.

video games can by definition not be art, nor can cars. for something to be art the purpose of its existence has to be the existence itself. objects made for some function can not be art. Braid is artsy, but it isn art. creating games can be seen as an art, but with a whole different meaning of the word.

Who knew there was enough of a juxtaposition between these two topics? Luigi screaming made me laugh for a good minute. The Mona Lisa spoof made me remember a Pokemon version of it, with Ash's cap on her head, and a Pikachu on her lap. I wonder if there's any more like that?
