The human race has lost 235,000 years to Halo

Shares

Bungie has posted a final farewell to Halo fans on Bungie.net. Unsurprising seeing as they're not making the series any more (343 Industries appear to be doing a fine job with that). But in typical Bungie fashion, it's not just a short, sweet, 'so long and thanks for all the fish'. This message comes with some suitably epic multiplayer statistics gathered over the past eight years. And of course it's as overblown as the unforgettable Bungie's emotional farewell to Halo: A dramatic reading.

"We have followed your careers with great interest here on Bungie.net, and you have gifted us a mountain of heroic moments to memorialize. It is with a sense of awe that we step back and admire the impact that you have had on our games, and upon our studio. Thanks for sharing your stories with us."

We've included the complete breakdown as published by Bungie below, but it's worth highlighting a few of the individual stats:

235,182: Total number of human years invested in the game. Apparently that's long enough to travel "the expanse of the Milky Way at the speed of light... and back."

136,128,511,043 - total number of online kills. That's more than 22 times the number of people living on planet Earth right now. And Bungie says only 108,000,000,000 people have EVER lived on Earth. So we've killed more than the entire human race. Our bad.

108,548,388,596 - the total number of online weapon kills. We can confirm most of these were not at our expense - but most of the melee ones probably were. Curse you melee attack!

It is a bit sad to think that this is the last time Bungie will publish crazy stats about Halo, but we're sure they'll publish equally overblown musings in their future projects so there should be more whimsical utterances soon. Here's the final breakdown in its entirety:

Above: 'See you starside'? LOL. I mean... mmm, totally. Starside, man

Yeah, we could have cured cancer. Or have found the Prothean archives on Mars. Or we could be fighting the Covenant right now.

It doesn't make it any less lame and non-effecting. I wish people would stop trying to justify things by telling people they have to buy all of the franchises products to understand. It's a game, if it isn't there, then oh fucking well.
